Joss Tour Ocean State Championship In Progress

Is it me or does Allen always look like one of the nicest, most approachable guys you've ever seen.

I am so bummed that I missed this tournament but it ain't gonna happen again.

Way to go JoeT. I know you wanted this one but third place in that field ain't too shabby.

Absolutely Koop, Allen will always take the time to stop and talk, and if you catch him at the right time, man has he got some stories.

JAM,

What did you think of Abood?

I did get a chance to converse with Gary Abood, and he is quite charming. :)

A worldly kind of guy, Gary has traveled around the globe, having done a stint in the armed forces in his younger years. When he was stationed in California, he remembers when he was a D-plus player hanging out at Hard Times and watching Keith McCready who at that time was in the thick of the action circuit. So, when he faced Keith at the Joss event this past weekend, it must have been a thrill for him to win the match, 9 to 5, on the B side of the charts. I like his game a lot, and he's definitely a gentleman player, IMHO, quite humble and very polite when he's in the pit.

Though he is from the New England area, I think Gary enjoys being on the road. He has a great deal of passion for pool, having owned a pool room in Louisiana for a short time, and he has seen the BEST of the best. He is a smark cookie when matching up and shows no fear. Gary shoots with a Paul Mottey cue stick, which he states he's had for some time. The hit is perfect, he says, and he wouldn't trade it in for anything.

When we left Snookers, closing the place down at 2:00 a.m. yesterday, Gary Abood was engaged in a game of stakes with Bristol Bob, one-hole. ;)

I was contemplating asking Gary if I could take his picture, even though I know he is sensitive about that a bit. However, Gary is one of the pool players who reminds me of a chameleon and has a different look, depending on his mood. One thing for sure, he loves the pool lifestyle, and when you least expect it, Gary Abood may be playing in your neighborhood pool room someday soon. :D

He definitely has a personality. If he makes it to the national stage I think it will be good for the sport; when he is at the table he is as serious as can be, and is one of those guys that just looks cool shooting. Off the table he didn't ever seem short of words.

What a speedy and well thought-out reply! You don't disappoint.

I'm looking forward to watching him and other jam-up NE (and beyond) players at the IPT Qualifier at Country Club USA in a few weeks.

Is that your license plate?

I thought it was this coming weekend?

When is it exactly?

Thanks,

Koop,

There is a mini qualifier (for the IPT Qualifier) on the 4th of February. $100 entry.

The real deal begins on 2/17 I think.

Bandito <----not gonna waste his dough

Thanks guys.

I need to try and make it for at least one day. Should be some real heavy hitters up there.

Gary Abood told me that he was planning on competing in the IPT qualifier held in Chelmsford, MA. He will definitely be a tough contender. I hope that those of you lucky ducks who do attend keep us updated here on the forum. :D

They used to be my license plates on the car before the one I am driving now! One year when I was driving to Valley Forge for the Super Billiards Expo, I got honked at by several cars passing me by on the highway. I think they were heading for Valley Forge too and just wanted to give me a honk! :p

I still have license plate frames in my garage which state: "I'd rather be playing pool" and "Pool Players have bigger balls."
