Joss Turning Stone Casino Tournament Thread

I definitely do not want to get snowed in at a casino.

Oh come on JAM, thought you said you were up two? Getting snowed in is your chance to double it!!! :p

Anyway, thanx for the updates.....I hope McCreesh gets it.

Congratulations to Steve Tavernier

Steve Tavernier from Providence, RI, won the Joss Turning Stone Casino Tournament, to the tune of $5,500. This is Steve's first major win, and he had a huge rooting section in the gallery pulling him in. When it was all said and done, Steve Goulding, the owner of Snooker's, and Joe Tucker were smiling giving Steve pats on the back and high-fives. Steve's girlfriend was proud as could be and was holding tight onto the trophy.

Ryan McCreesh came in second place and pocketed $3,600. Frankie Hernandez came in third, and Dennis "The Hatchet" Hatch collected $2,000 for fourth place.

Dave Hernandez of Maine, also a player in the tournament, won the Joss cue raffle.

Now it's off to the casinos. Ryan said he received a phone call from Mike Davis on the cell and that Mike was en route to Pittsburgh for the NAOT tournament, driving 10 miles an hour in the middle of a blizzard.

Ryan has had second thoughts about going to Pittsburgh and will return home. This weekend will be the $2,500-added Planet Pool 9-Ball Tour tournament at Bill and Billie's in Arnold, MD.

Hi Jen,

Sorry we didn't have an opportunity to finish our conversation with Cueball 1950. While you were with Keith down a couple of tables, I was locked with Joe Tucker. Sorry to hear of the racking problems. We played our entire match without ever checking each others racks. The last time I played Frankie, it was in Reno and rack your own. I suggested this to Mike Z. He feels that it saves no time as your opponent will just complain about whatever you do. Has Keith got any ideas? Anyway, please be careful on your trek to Pittsburgh. It is snowing heavily here in Rochester. Drive safely!

Congrats to all the top finishers, and a safe trip home to all.

Thanks again Jam, for all the great coverage.

Just got home, but wanted to post this picture taken at the event. It's the crew from Snooker's Billiards in Providence, RI, including the new champion, Steve Tavernier with his lovely lady in the middle. Steve Goulding, who hosts Joss tournaments at Snooker's, also competed in the Turning Stone championship, shown on the far right, and that's Joe Tucker on the left!

Check out the layout of the Diamond tables at the Turning Stone Casino tournament, plenty of space for the shooters to compete, never having to worry about knocking into a player on an adjacent table. Everybody loved this venue!

Who's in the photo

Hi Folks,

Does anyone know who it is standing next to Joe Tucker in the photo in post #27? It kind of looks like Steve Golding. Can it be his son? I don't remember seeing him at the event.

...And that appears to be Ray MacNamara between Joe and Steve.

Thanks for your reports, Jenn!

Thanks, Steve. When I got home from Verona, NY, a brutally hazardous drive in the mountains -- especially in Binghamton, NY  -- I couldn't remember the player's name. :p

Check out this picture of Steve Tavernier, the winner of the Turning Stone Casino Classic IV, collecting the cheese from Mike Zuglan, the Joss Northeast Players 9-Ball Tour tournament director.

Players began rolling in the afternoon. I saw three pool room proprietors who host Joss Tour events sign up at the players meeting, Pete G. from Ultimate Billiards in Berlin, CT, Bob M. of Drexeline Billiards in Drexel Hills, PA, and Steve G. from Snooker's in Providence, RI....

Pete Genovese, the owner of Ultimate Billiards and host to many of the Joss tournaments, competes in quite a few of the Joss events. He also plays in the Open every year. A very sharp dresser, the man's got class and a sense of style!

On March 5-6, there will be a $5,000-added Joss Tour event at Ultimate Billiards in Berlin, Connecticut. Thanks, Pete, for keeping pool alive for players like Keith! :)

Here's a picture of Pete Genovese, Keith, and one of Pete's friends and sponsors of events, whose name escapes me at the moment! :p

...Karen Corr was practicing with Frankie Hernandez. An interesting story about Frankie, he just got back from Venezuela where he provided instructional sessions for the pool federation from that country....

When Frankie was practicing after the players meeting with Karen Corr, the proud dad went back to his room to retrieve a photo album of his son's first birthday, wanting to show off his beautiful baby boy to his friends.

Picture of Frankie practicing with Karen!

Hi Folks,

I'm not sure if anyone from the Oneida Tribal Council visits this forum. Regardless, thanks to the entire Oneida Tribe for giving us an opportunity to visit and play at The Turning Stone. The playing facility was first class. Food and lodging excellent (I sadly missed the Brazillian Steak House). Very helpful, friendly staff. I can't say enough good things. Great to see Greg Sullivan and Nick Mannino after their flirts with the Maker. For those of you who have not attended a Joss Turning Stone Event, you don't know what your missing. Its as good as it gets in the billiard world!

I talked to Greg and Nick, and they're both feeling just great. Nick, a lover of Italian cuisine, said he did change his eating habits, and Greg Sullivan, who brought us those beautiful Diamond Tables making this one magnificant venue, said he has lost 15 pounds recently on his new healthy lifestyle.

Check out this picture of Nick Mannino clowning around for JAM! :p

Here's a picture of Santos posing for me in front of one of the many sponsor banners at the Joss tournament at Turning Stone Casino.

This is a product which is an easy-to-use cleaning system and polishing treatment for shafts. I got me a couple of bottles for Keith! :)

The Shaft and Ferrule Cleaner wipes safely clean the shaft and ferrule, a fast-drying formula which will not raise wood grain, and prevents the sticky build-up that develops over time.

The Shaft Treatment and Cue Polish seals, conditions, and preserves the wood shaft, leaves an ultra-smooth finish to enhance a player's stroke, contains no wax that attracts dirt and chalk. It adds a sparkling shine and even helps remove surface scratches from the finish, providing a protective surface that repels moisture, fingerprints, dirt and chalk. It is ideal for fiberglass, graphite and composite cues, non-toxic, with no abrasives or harsh chemicals.

Sponsors keep regional tournaments going strong, and thanks go out to SmartWipes and all of the other loyal sponsors for making this a wonderful Joss event!

Hi Rog,

If you get over to CM Lee's place in Tampa, please say hello to my friend and mentor, Pat Howey.
