Hello,

So I'm thinking about have judd make me a cue. Any thoughts on his cues? Are they stiff hitting or are they a bit forgiving? I personally don't like a very stiff hitting cue. Any thoughts on his cues , the workmanship etc?\\

I think youll like it

Its hard define stiffness IMO with all the different tapers out there. I wouldnt classify his cues as abnormally stiff but firm. I think youll like it fine.

In my opinion, Judd Fuller is a hugely understated cuemaker that provides one of the best hitting cues, at least to my liking.

I had the opportunity of shooting with one of his first JT-5's, and the fit, finish, and points were flawless. Super deep piano finish, the thinnest, sharpest points I had ever seen, and just an overall cool modern design. 5/16x14 flat-faced joint, in to a brass inserted shaft with a Moori.

The hit? well...I'd describe it like a "springy" cue. Something about the taper or hit was very, very lively. Awesome feedback, and a great 19" or so forward balance, making jacked up shots effortless. Personally I can't say enough good things about it. And, yes, the hit is forgiving. Or at least I was so excited about it, that I was drawing full table in full adrenaline.

OH, also I got to hit with a custom plain jane, merry widow JT-1 with a birdseye front and highly figured macassar ebony handle. That too was a monster cue, and had a very similar hit, only slightly softer. Man, you can push the cue soft with that one. Deadly safties came easy. 3/8x10 wood-to-wood flat faced joint, with a pressed Elkmaster.

So, that's how I feel about 'em. The only thing I'm lusting for more is a TAD-1, or a Tad Kohara period.

And, well, Efren had a JT-1 for awhile. Think about it! LOL

Definitely one of the best and affordable cues available.....

Judd's cues are top notch in my opinion. My weapon of choice is my custom JT-1. His shafts are second to none and are white as snow! His precision and focus on natural woods really make his cues one of the most eye catching out on the market. Best of all, Judd and Trudy are such really nice people.

i just traded my judd ebony custom sneaky pete, its a sharp looking cue with fancy ring work and all but the points dont line up, now for the hit: it was solid but like the person above mentioned "lively" now that is the perfect verb to discribe a judd hit, i even owned a 12 pointer judd ( with a 5/16 x 14) and that hit like shit... my sneaky had a 3/8 x 10 pin which was the better of the two, now honestly i traded it to find a stiffer hitting cue, and so now i play with a sneaky pete bluegrass which is exactly what i wanted. on the other had i also purchased a tim scruggs shaft for it and man it hit good, right under my bluegrass. oh yea the original judd shaft was about 12.8 - 12.9 mm. but over all a very nice hitting cue, with a 3/8 x 10

I'm glad to have found this post - I recently have been looking at Judd Cues too, and they look beautiful - Glad to hear all the positive feedback on the hit too!

Anyone know of a used JT1 for sale?

I'am shoting with a JUDD with a 5/16-14 the hit is great and forgiving. So i bought (1) listed in A/Z and wish it still has the hit of the 5/16-14 but has he has gone to a 3/8 -10 i my opion the hit is stiffer. It was my mistake not ask for the spec. a head of time.

If the 3/8-10 you're not loving is the one picked up from Bushwacker recently, I'd be interested so shoot me a PM and maybe we can work something out. thanks

His workmanship is "very very" Good he take's his time to do job right he also has a waiting List for his CUES the 3/8x10 hit's stiff his 5/16x14 let's you get a lot more Action on the Cue with less effort.i.e. there is more whip but it not a Meeuci

Judd's are known for their consistent, from cue to cue, firm hit. They are one of the best values on the market. I own 3, one is a 1 of 1, and I recommend his cues.

I'm currently playing with a Judd Fuller/John Davis full-splice ebony titlist tribute, and a Judd/Mark Bear full-splice ebony/bem break cue. Both are excellent fit/finish and playability. Player's hit is comfortable, not to stiff, not too lively, but will do what I ask it to do if I hit it right. The Judd/Davis has a 3/8x10 ivory joint and ivory Hoppe ring, with Judd's signature ebony/ivory ring at the joint, and an incredibly good shaft. While he was making my cues, Francisco Bustamonte called him and ordered a fancy cue.

I will be selling the Judd/Bear break cue when my new one arrives, as 17 oz is too light for me and I can't generate the speed like I used to, but it is an awesome 57" break cue with Samsara tip. The blank was custom made for me by Mark Bear (RIP), instrument grade ebony into very highly figured birdseye maple, the cue has Judd's signature ivory/ebony ring at the 3/8x10 phenolic joint and shaft collar, and a non-ivory Hoppe ring with black pigskin wrap, if anybody's interested, pm me...it's not cheap.
:p
