Juma Joint vs. Ivory Joint

I have been seeing Leon Sly and Bob Frey using a Juma Joint in their cues.

I am wondering how they compare with the hit.

Let me know.

Thanks,

I would think if all other factors were exactly even, a Juma joint would be a little softer hitting compared to ivory. Hard to ever make a completely even comparison, however, unless you had the same cue and just swapped out the joint collars.

FWIW, I just played some with a cue that had a Juma joint and it was a very stiff, hard hitting cue.

I've done several solid Juma joints in both flat face and piloted configurations and have been happy with the results. Like most joints if you put a piece of tape over it.........................nevermind................I'm not going down that road again.

Juma hits softer than Ivory.

Chris,

I agree with you that Juma feels softer and is quieter.

Ferrule numbers thanks to Hdgis1:http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=252463&highlight=ferrule+hardness+test

However, according to the test done on the Shore D Scale in Germany Last year sponsered by Hdgis1, Juma is 89 and Elephant Ivory ranges between 87 and 93 depending on the elephant or a specific tusk.

IMO, Juma is the holy grail for CMs for Joints and Butt Caps not only for it's consistency but for the fact that it cleans up real easy just before finishing when using white. The melamines, white phenolic and ivorine materials ect. would get dirty during the build and never present under the finish as perfect as the Juma.

I love Juma,

Rick

Fwiw: from my experience the hit is not too different, but the Juma is for sure quieter
