HIGH RUN STILL TO COME !

After watching some world class players get out of line, only to bring out there trusty jump cue, jump the ball and run out I had a thought.
New rule . Jump cue allowed only on players incoming shot.

"Issue" is a strong word. However when I first heard Stu make this suggestion maybe a year or so ago, I agreed then, and still do.

I just don't get the issue with jump cues.

If a golfer plays off the tee into a bunker, hits into another bunker with a sand wedge then manages to chip in again using the sand wedge you wouldn't want it banned, you'd say well done.

I don't see why its different....if people don't like their opponents jumping to escape from safeties, then play tighter safeties!

At our old state tournament you could only use a jumper at the beginning of an inning and if you made the shot had to continue with it til you missed or played safe.

Just a TAD late there bro. This idea has been tossed around for years. I like it myself. Apparently organizers don't.

Or just ban the shorty-cue all together? Thats the real solution.

I don't know why some people get this hype about jumping balls with shorty, sometimes I laugh at the commentators trying to "Big-hype" a jump shot from a player. It's the silliest thing ever and I don't get why they keep doing it about the easy-jump shorty.

Even Judd trump who doesn't play pool at one time in the tournament got hooked and he brought his shorty and jump + made the ball. Yes it is that easy.

One time grady mathews said it takes years to learn how to kick properly but he could teach a guy to jump a ball within 30 minutes.

Jump shots are not a "WOW" shot, they are easy and should never been used. Please do pool a favor and ban them, for the love of god I been saying this for years.

So many issues!! I can't believe you're comparing golfer changing bats to the game pool. If someone hooks himself and plays bad position then he brings this silly shorty and just jump and makes it? He isn't penalize for playing a horrible position and then brings a short-cue which even a 13 yr old can use, and makes the ball? How is that ok.

I know a 13 yr old who can't play the game at all but he knows how to use this short-cue to jump over ball and makes the object ball, it is horrible! It needs to be banned quickly from the game! Jump with your cue at your own risk, the shorty must get removed.

It's pool not golf. They are two different games.

I struggle to see why its not like golf (in the sense that you simply use the most appropriate tool for the job, whats the difference?), the bunker analogy is surely exactly the same as hooking yourself is it not?

I do agree with you that modern jump cues make jumping very easy, however modern equipment in all sports does that, its simply down to the players to increase their skill levels.

Of course, but as I point out above, why is this okay:

Playing a bad shot in golf, ending up in a bunker and using a specialist tool to escape (a sand wedge)

But this is bad:

Playing a bad shot in pool, ending up hooked and using a specialist tool to escape (a jump cue)

I struggle to see it!

30 minutes? Hell, I can teach somebody to kick around a blocker in six seconds. That doesn’t mean they’re going to make the shot or be able to control the shape for the next shot if they do…

The same applies to jumping.

Maybe because it's completely different.

Okay, but then (to quote myself) as far as I can see it's conceptually the same, so humour me, why is it such a different event to playing a bad shot and using the most appropriate tool for the job?

Edit: Just to add, I'm not saying you are necessarily wrong, but I just don't see it, hence I'm curious why you feel the above isn't logical?

Here’s a novel idea, how about no jump cues, and no jump shots allowed anymore. Lean to play learn to kick from the rail alla Efren. I for one would not mind seeing this although I’m in the minority.

But this is what I don't get....why does jumping stop you (I don't mean you personally of course, I mean generically the player) kicking? Surely you play the best shot for the situation?

I have a jump cue, but that doesn't mean I use it every match, I can easily go multiple matches without using it and then perhaps for a single shot in a match, because I feel on that occasion there is value in jumping. Whereas 95% of the time (for me) there is probably more value in kicking.

So both are valid, I just use (what I feel) is the most appropriate.

Now I may get it wrong of course, not suggesting I'm a top level player, but presumably the logic is the same for those at the top, they just make better decisions and execute better!

Not really, with the short-cue you can teach someone to jump in 30minutes and makes the ball. With a stop shot, even a guy who never plays pool I can still teach him. But kicking takes years and still you can't master it.

I can't believe you cannot see this, any good pool player will agree with me instantly.

Then how about I bring 5 different cues with me with different diameter and materials, also different tips and weights of cues. Lets say I come to the pool table with one CF shafted cue and 4 other wooden cue, one is 12.5mm and one is 12.2mm and two with hard tips. Another cue I bring that is 17 oz weight and another that is 21 oz weight.

Then with each shot I choose different cue for certain shots? do you think that should be allowed too? based on your argument it should be allowed. Maybe I use the heavy cue for hard draw shots, then the light cue for the slow-roll shots.

Since you think golf is the same as pool, lets also do this? I'll send a letter for the pool-society maybe they approve.

In more seriousness, I hope you can see that issue here. Golf is not similar to pool. Playing on a small table is different than playing on different grounds/ large field/ different elevations etc.

I've sure as F@ck seen a lot of missed safeties from world class pros in the last three weeks of Championship streams. You're wrong, its okay that you don't see it though.
