Jump Cues Suck! Period.

jump shots are ugly and damage the table. The game was meant to be played on the surface of the table, not above it.

And i know that last sentence above to be true as i was there when the game was invented.

you damn kids! Get off my lawn!!:d

I think jump cues add to the game. They add another facet from an offensive point of view. Even more importantly, they put pressure on the shooter playing a safety, to do it with precision. A safety that may result in a very difficult to impossible kick may be a relatively easy out with a jump cue. I know when I play in regular APA league, my thoughts on a safety are substantially different than when I play Masters or Valley league.

I happen to think when you add a facet to the game, expand the skill sets involved and add a risk/reward element, the game is more likely to improve than not.

Guess we should make it illegal to break above 16mph too. Love some of the logic used by people to justify bullshit.

Well you're right of course. Back when I actually played more pool...the late 60's and early 70's in nice Brunswick Bowling alleys, with bunches of gorgeous 9' Gold Crown tables. Jumping balls was "horsing around" and they'd boot you off the table.

Pool has come a long way since then....oh wait it's gone backwards.

I believe jump cues are the worse thing ever introduced to the game of pool. The only thing i like about them is laughing at someones unsuccessful attempt at using one. I do believe that jumping with your playing cue is ok. What do you think?

Play snooker then!

As you can see by the comments, this subject has been flogged to death on the forums. Don't take any of it too seriously.

Best, Ian

Jump shots bring some excitement to the game for spectators. Close your eyes and think of the Nick Vandenberg jump shot at Mosconi cup 2012. There is no way in hell anyone can tell me (unless you are a flat out liar) that was not one of the most exciting shots ever witnessed in the game of pool. Jump shots and jump cues are just another aspect of the game....and a good one. Its just a specialized shot like a break shot is. We might as well ban break cues too.

I agree! Full cue only.

I'm not gonna lie I used too be mr kick everything but after getting a jump cue I've won a lot more tournaments buy getting out with it which kicking would not have I like too do both lol

Everybody is looking for an edge, but nobody wants to learn how to pocket balls, play safe and kick out of a safe.

I beg to differ. :)

Here are some of my own jump shots, safeties, cut shots, one pocket play, and some particularly nice kick shots that I've been lucky enough to capture on video within the past six months or so:

Sure, everybody is looking for an edge. Why not? Personally, I don't mind jump cues at all, but I would agree that they are often overused.

However, although many shots are better for kicking, sometimes, the best shot is actually a jump.

Then again, I love nothing more than a beautifully executed kick shot!

Now I need to work on my banks! :)

I agree blake kick shots are sweet and love too do them that's all I used too do was kick but I got too say I like too jump also lol nice video btw

If you hate it so much, maybe you should take up snooker. It's an automatic foul any time the cue ball leaves the felt.

It seems to me that you are avoiding my inquiry. I asked for you to post a video and instead you ask me another useless question? Didn't your mom ever tell you it is rude to answer a question with a question?

I'm just curious to see your superior kicking ability and would love to be dazzled by someone.

I don't keep videos of myself handy. Don't worry you won't forget me if we ever match up!

Ah the ol' internet hot shot routine....never gets old. Instead of thinking of all the reasons to b!tch about jump cues, why don't you take a minute and think of how they force the game to progress in a positive way. As a few have mentioned already, the advent of having jump cues in the game forces players to play lock-up safeties rather than loose ones where distance can be left between the balls. No one is saying kicking isn't important, it's just as important if not a little bit more. Bottom line though, some shots it's more appropriate to jump, some to kick..

This must be earl in disguise

I heard stories about Earl playing as a kid, and how he would amaze players by jumping over balls. No one really did that back then. Granted, he used his playing cue, but I bet there were a lot of people saying you shouldn't be allowed to do that. He is just upset that the playing field is evened up.

You know what I like about the jump cues I build. It is the look on my opponents face when they think they have me hooked good and I jump the ball in and run out on them.
