I'm going to use your thread to refute this solidly. First, why do you hate jump cues? I think I know why.
Stroke is a skill, right?
Aiming, 1,2,3 rail leave patterns, english, throwing an OB, etc are all tools in the tool box. These are top shelf and used on almost every shot. Then we get to second drawer skills like breaking, banking, kicking etc.
Kick and Bank aiming are skills. These skills should be acquired and improved. A player learns them to some level and should continually try to improve these skills. They are a tool in his/her tool box.
Jumping is a skill. With or without a jump cue, jumping takes time to even get to the point where I would attempt it in a game. It is probably a third drawer tool like masse. If I can make a jump cue without moving parts with the tools and materials and class of a playing cue, then I think it should be admissible. Can you jump, jump + english, jump safe, jump kick, etc? If not, get to practicing. . . I fired a guy up a few days ago by jumping some balls and almost making it. My position was such that a plausible 1 or 2 rail kick was not going to happen for me.
Masse is a skill and I think more masse cues should be out there in players cases also. Artistic players can shoot repetatively with them, so pros should probably consider them. At one time, I used to masse with my player for hours a day justt trying to pick up the skill. For me, it was a fourth drawer tool, but you should see the look on a guys face when you masse half the length of the table and hit the 8 ball well enough for it to travel the other half table and go in. Kind of burns a guys butt when his lucky miss creates this shot and you still make it!
No skill should cause a person to rant about others having it. Even if the skill causes a guy to carry an extra cue. Like you point out, the extra cue isn't required, but it helps.
If someone can decide jumping is not a skill, what next? No banking allowed. or no custom cues allowed. What if house cues were required to level the equipment field??
I think it is better to add drawers to my toolbox than to complain about peopl who have more drawers than I do. Frankly, the basics of sinking the object ball, speed and simple 1 - 2 rail leave patterns, if mastered will get you a long ways.
