Jump Shot Accuracy

Hi,

This might be a dumb question, but does putting draw on a jump shot make the cue ball hop less and therefore improve jump shot accuracy? I was practicing jump shots the other day and this seemed to help. I also recall watching a match on youtube and one of the pros, I don't remember who, seemed to do this when he pocketed a ball on a jump shot.

Messing around with off center (of gravity) hits on the CB is asking for swerve after landing (creating massé effects).

Not don't get me wrong, there are plenty of reasons to use draw and follow after landing a jump shot, but just try to use as little as possible because the margin for error is so tiny. And there are times when a little massé after landing is exactly what the shot calls for.

But left/right off center-ness in the hit will massé after landing. If you plan for it and use the right amount you will be happy. Otherwise, not so much.

I think striking downward on the ball at the usual spot... already puts a touch of draw on the ball whether you wanted any or not. You might notice pros get some draw action after most jumps. I don't think trying to put 'extra' draw will help, it just adds to the difficulty.

If the ball is hopping a lot and hitting the OB while still fairly high off the table, or even double-hops over the object ball, then probably just lowering your butt and using less force will fix that. With the right cue & tip, you need much less force to get good air on the first bounce, and as a result the landing is softer and less likely to go wild.
