Jump Shot Masters

Thanks for the feedback.

The individual I was thinking about was Shawn Putnam as being one of the best. I have heard his name mentioned from other pros as well. I was glad to see his name come up.

I think Yang Ching-Shun is the best jump shot player in the world. In fact, most taiwanese players are good at jump shot. (Ga-Young Kim, Hsin Huang and Chia-Ching Wu all learned 9-ball in taiwan.) Mika Immonen is also a skilled jumper.

This is on a personal note ...

but do you know any 'shorter' players that are
good jumpers. I am talking under 5'8".

I can jump ok, I'm 5'6", but I rarely use a jump cue. The last time
i did was playing 1 pocket, and the guy blew a gasket. That's 9ball sh*t you can't do that. Luckily another well known player close by backed me up. When I do jump, I use the spear method with alot of success, because being short it's hard to get your elbow elevated enough with a full size cue.

This is a double jump which I like a lot. The ball jumps real high on its first jump, and clears the second ball on its second bounce. This jump was done by an amateur player.

If you like to see some more nice jump shots, you may check out the rest of the gallery on my site.

Enjoy.

Shawn Putnam, without a doubt, the best jumper playing today.

The first time I played Shawn he broke and made two balls but was hooked. He pushed out to a very diffacult jump shot and of course i passed. He jumped the ball in and ran out. He had me about 5-2 and the same thing occured. by the time he was on the hill it happened once more needles to say I took the shot fouled and watched him get out. He is by far the best jump artist with the jump cue.

If you ever get to see Shawn Putnam play for a while you can see just how well he can jump balls. Not only does he push out to a jump shot, in hopes of an incoming pass, but the most amazing thing to me is his feel for jump distance. On table width shots where normally the cueball would bounce off the table because of height and velocity, Shawn will make the cueball LAND on the object ball, absorbing the speed. He does this with consistancy.

John Schmidt is probably under 5'8" and he is a great jumper with a jump cue or his playing cue.

I had the pleasure of meeting this young gentleman who was 11 years old and was about 5" 3 or so in last year's US Open. His name was Vollie.

If you have question about his jumping ability because of his height, please go here, and then scroll to the very bottom. I have a seperate video gallery for him there. He was a bit unorthodox but that is what made him so truly amazing to watch.

Hope you enjoy the videos as much as I have.
