Jump Shots

I was looking through one of Byrne's books and he has a small section talking about jump shots in 3-C. I believe they're legal so long as the wood of the rail doesn't get touched, is that right? I'm talking about in actual tournament game play, not artistic demonstrations and the like.

I can't remember ever seeing anybody play one. Is there video of Blomdahl shooting some crazy jump shot in a game somewhere? Is it just not done?

Yes, you must not hit the wood if the cue ball goes up on the rail. Also, any number of bounces on the cushion only counts as one contact.

I don't recall any on-top-of-the-cushion shot in a match. I vaguely recall some videos of non-tournament shots where the cue ball was on the cushion unintentionally and still managed to score.

There are other jump shots in which the cue ball goes off the first ball to maybe jump over the edge of the second ball to get to the right line.

I jumped the edge of ball 2 and the folks freaked out.

That ball is hard to get airborne though, I say you that.

As to the ball traveling on the rail, mine usually leaves the table immediately thereafter and thankfully, I don't do that often... anymore!

But have you ever seen one in an actual tournament? Especially a pro tournament? I never have.

Right, it almost seems like it's taboo in 3C. I feel like there would be a big reaction from the audience if Caudron hopped a ball during a tournament.
