Just A Few Observations

Just a few observations watching other players shoot over the last few years. Most of who I am talking about are good to top armatures.

I see a lot of them spend one quarter of the time shooting their break shot than on a regular shot. If you spend 30 seconds on a semi-hard shot in the game, why wouldn’t you spend at least that on your break. The break is one of the most important shots in most types of games.

Going past their position trying to slow-roll to it instead of going past it, hitting a rail and coming back for it. In a lot of cases you have more room for error using the rail.

Taking long shots that need to have a lot of juice on them to get position for next ball on a pro-cut Diamond table. We all aren’t SVB, Corey, or Johnny A. Sometimes the better part of valor is to play safe or at least hit pocket speed and take a longer or harder cut on next ball.

These are some of the things I use to do in a game, over and over and over again with mostly the same results…go my seat.

I know most on AZ know all of the above. This is just a little reminder. Johnnyt

Good observations.

I take forever on my break and it still kind of sucks but it's improving. I wouldn't dream of speeding it up. People think a break shot is random luck and a hard hit is all you need. They don't believe deep down you can really play a ball on purpose off the break, or that it's possible to hit hard but keep the cue ball still. Once you accept it's within your power, everything else falls into place.

I also noticed how some guys just insist on trying to hold a ball when they really HAVE to go over-and-back across the table. It's a habit based on wishful thinking, they know hitting harder makes the shot harder but they want to believe they can get away with not doing it.
