Just a recreational player

I like the watch scenario as well. They both tell time but one may make you feel better in some way. I have a bunch of cues and have sold lots of high end customs. In the end one of my favs is my 3k5 and an old sledgehammer breaker. I have a revo (literally just got it) shaft and I was simply curious about it. If I don’t like it I’ll sell it as the demand for them is still there regardless of price.

I personally feel a decent used starter is a good place to begin.

Enjoy “your” cues and just worry about having fun and competing the best you can ;)

Maybe they are just recreational players who only play with house cues
Maybe they are just recreational players who do not want to invest in cues as they are just recreational players
Or maybe they are like Gordon Gekko who spends on expensive suits only after making some billion

I am an old school golfer and like to play blades - people ask me all the time if I am a scratch golfer - I play pretty sporty, but nothing like that.....I have the money and play the clubs I want, simple as that.

I was at the driving range once with this guy I play with occasionally and I shared that I was considering upgrading from my sports store starter set to a more serious set of irons. He replies " think about it...a new set of clubs isn't gonna make you any better.

A couple of weeks later I find out his wife gave him her blessing to get himself something nice for his bday...he goes out and gets himself a brand new set of Ping G irons. I'm a better player than him btw, but we are all so full of sh*t. LOL

I bought a nice cue because I can afford it. You don't have to be a pro to have a nice cue, no more than you have to be a race car driver to own a Vette.

If you can afford it, buy what you like, end of story.

I also like to buy "good" stuff. Good doesn't necessarily mean "show off".

For me, a decent cue is something I want. However, I would never want a Black Boar or something in that category because I would look pretty stupid with a $ 10-20k cue playing like the C-Player I am.

When I was still skiing in my younger days the worst skiers often had the flashiest equipment. It looks really silly if you fall over 3 times on the beginner's hill in $10-20k skiing outfits, "racing" skis included. The same with cues in my mind. A "normal" outfit or a normal cue does not lift eyebrows - someone boasting about his brand new Revo shaft but missing every ball would, at least in my opinion.

I own equipment that is probably considered better than my skills - playing with a $1k Meucci. Buying the latest craze each and every year - a Predator Z when that was considered the nuts, then a Revo and now whatever is a must-have currently would make me feel silly, though.

There is always a fine line between boasting and owning good equipment. That's how I see it.

I bought my custom just because of how much I fell in love with the wood on it. Same thing with my Alex Brick there both unique and rarely see them.

Sure I was a bad player when I got it but after 4 years I am a decent player with a nice set of cues that I love and wouldn't trade for the world.
