Just a thought about the game . . .

I started to post this somewhere else but I figured I'd just say it here.

Seems like serious heat develops when discussions about learning or playing the game come up. The aiming thread phenomena is well known to prove this point. Even the how would you play this seems to draw it often as well.

Anyway , this just had me thinking about the game as a whole and had a thought I figured I'd share:

I think people forget how hard the game can be. It looks so simple.

Knock the ball in the whole , do it again ,win. How hard is that ?

Harder than it 'seems'.

It seems like anyone could do what they see top players do given enough time and practice but like all sports/skills but it's just not that easy regardless how simple pool seems to be.

Pool games are short and your 'misses' are in your face obvious. Many other sports allow you to recover from a mistake , most times a few and still come out on top.

How many times has Tiger been in a sand trap or out of bounds ? Roger Federer hit a ball long , in the net , or double fault ? Jordan miss a 3 pointer or a shot from the floor ? In all those sports they actually chart thier "Success/Failure" ratio. It's never 1/1. :D I favorable percent in most cases would be 70%-80%s tops.

Could you imagine if the top players in pool could only make 4/5 shots ?

I'm talking about the best in the sports world at what they do and they miss from time to time. Do that in pool and the game may be over. ;) Not quite so simple anymore. I forget that too.

What's it all mean ? Well to me , something that I forget from time to time. I really enloy "The Game" whether I die a banger or a World beater and that is why I play. It's why I keep coming back after 20-25 years.

I still get antsy when I'm packing up to go play and I still have to get 'kicked out' in order to leave. I still bounce around with excitement when the Mailman brings something 'pool'. I can't go a day without reading or seeing something pool related. It's a passion for sure , an internal peace . . . I don't know . . . I guess it's just me. :)

That's what matters.

I think. :)

FWIW , just felt like saying it.

When you really catch the pool fever, it never leaves. Some of the best times in my life were pool related. Some pretty bad ones, too. But, memories? You betcha.

one poster (forget who it was?) was attacking me for what seems like the 1000th time by various posters, and made a comment that i absolutely couldnt believe. it went something like this:

"9-Ball Is An Easy Game"

uh huh, sure. i'd say RRfireblade hit the nail on the head. funny, the more i am on here and the more i get attacked, it just seems like the overwhelming majority agree with my thoughts, ideas, and assessments.

blade: it probably seems like everyone's expected to play really perfect in pool because if you hit a certain number of shots, you've won. You can hit as many shots in basketball as you want and they won't automatically say you've won. So in pool, reaching that magical 8 ball / 9 ball / 150 ball run is considered really important.

But if you average all the shots of even fairly high level players, counting misses and safes and miscues and fouls etc, I wouldn't be shocked if they averaged only 80ish percent. It just doesn't seem that way because we pretty much forget about the boring 3-inning 9 ball matches or straight pool games where guys 'only' ran 40s.

PS: lol not everything has to be made about you dcp... passive-aggressive whining about the problem will only make it worse.
