Just Breathe

Does breathing in a particular way influence a shot ? Should it be considered in a "preshot routine" ? I find myself holding my breath during a shot when I don't think about it. What do you do ?

I think it's best to just breathe like you normally would and not even worry about it. Or if you really think developing a breathing pattern can help I would suggest exhaling and then shooting before inhaling again.

Personally if I am thinking about I exhale and shoot. Does it really matter? Maybe, I dont know, but for fun I sharked a buddy of mine once. He was getting down on the shot and I asked him if he breaths in, our, or just holds it when he shoots. It completely messed with his head because he had never thought about it before.

Being somewhat asleep at the wheel can be a good thing for your pool game!

I don't agree! I think not only do you need to pay attention to your breathing pattern but you need to pay even closer attention to your blinking pattern! I like to go with 2 blinks right before I shoot. On really tough shots I go with 3. ;)

Of course none of this means ANYTHING if you don't lick your lips the proper number of times.

Just like shooting a rifle, it's pretty important. A lot of people do it naturally, without a lot of thought. I have it as part of my pre-shot routine, I take one deep (not too deep, just a little deeper than normal) breath as I'm getting down on the shot. Then on my last measuring stroke (I like to pause on the forward part of those strokes), I let my breath out at a relaxed level and don't breath back in during the execution stroke. Nothing forced with the breathing pause, all kind of relaxed and slack.

I have witnessed this once..had me laughing so hard on the inside that when it was my up I miss cued...she just smiled an started licking her lips all over again, could have smacked my buddy for pointing this aiming system of hers out..lol
