Just Curious...

I'm on a pretty strong downturn at the moment. I blame the idea that playing with "rhythm" makes a positive difference. I switched back to 14.1 a month or two back and attempted to work in rhythm with a more fluid stroke. It's absolutely killed my consistency, and produced a slight inside out chicken wing.

Thankfully, when I looked for the problem I was able to spot it. I've unfortunately engrained it slightly, so I'm having a hard time reverting back.

Fortunately the problem is really only bad when I'm playing 14.1 solo. It hasn't effected my competitive game all that much, but it's there enough for me to tell. Everyone else thinks I'm just being lazy and not giving it 100%
Perhaps you are just playing at the wrong rythum....

Does your game ever fluctuate?

I mean -- like for a while -- you are firing on all cylinders. No shot is missable. Any position play is doable. And then... you come back the next day, or maybe even mid-session the same day, become screamingly helpless?

Absolutely! I can be playing as well as l can, and in the next minute can't pocket a ball. I would imagine the better you are the less it happens and the less drastic the change is, but I think everyone who plays the game goes through this.

I sent a short video of myself playing a couple racks -- to an open source AI Chat box and got back the following Reply:

"WTF, but at least you are incredibly handsome"

Arnaldo ~ He - She - it wants to take me to dinner some time.

I'd like to say it does. But that would be giving myself too much credit. I don't play enough to enjoy any level of consistency, so it would be very generous to claim my game "fluctuates" ;)

I do sometimes feel like I'm getting back to a level that I used to play at years ago. Then I come crashing back to the new norm.

Remember pool is 90% mental and the rest is in your head.
My my archive search provides this version.
  • Baseball is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical

Yogi izums by definition can be easily miss con screwed. 🤷‍♂️

I found the chapter on rhythm and cadence in the book The Pleasure of Small Motions to be excellent. If I get jabby, recalling this section of the book is pretty helpful.

So, a variety of answers to a widespread affliction.

But no one has nailed down the cause and possible cure… yet.

Lou Figueroa
I know both... Just requires table time to roll back to what works better. Pitfalls of tinkering.

Oh...not true!!!!....some guys have completly nailed down why and when they play bad vs good.

They are called "Hustlers".....the affliction (and cure) is $$$$.

It is like I say every morning at the beginning of my work day when I sneeze........"Looks like my work allergy is kicking in......I know the cure....I just can't afford it"....;)

For the "Non Hustlers"....the answer is "comfort zone".......$$$ may have an effect on that as well

Seems that I remember a Ronnie O'Sullivan confession of tinkering. So the rewards can offset the pitfalls is my excuse. 🤷‍♂️ I always try to leave a trail of breadcrumbs when I explore new methods. Nothing worse than getting lost and can't find my way back. 😉

Playing for money I didn't have with the Rodeo bulldog Champions certainly got my full focus.
The first game I ever won money at, to boot. 🤷‍♂️ Definitely would not want to do it again. Definitely wouldn't.......Definitely.....

McGoorty has a chapter that addresses playing for money when broke. A terrific read all the way through.
