I recently found an old house cue and decided to experiment a lil. its an old mersawa (SP?) cue that was short, and one peice, and I thought it would be neat to see what kind of jump cue it would make so I tried it out, with a slip on tip it was difficult to get any air, so I cut it off, no ferrule present so I decided to glue a tip straight onto the wood. well I found I like it! I jumped over 17 balls in a straight line.. lol. Im amazed at how easy it is to jump with this cue, so this had me wondering if its because I glued the tip to the wood? I also noticed it is almost to easy to draw the ball after the jump too, I mistakenly drew the cue ball back the length of the table a couple times. Im pretty stoked about how the cue jumps and im thinking of having a couple jump cues made that are ferruless. good idea?

No big acheivement but with such a cheap jump cue Im pretty pleased.

Yes pretty hard on the cloth, I have Simonis 860 and there are white spots on the cloth where I have been Jumping. You do what you have to do at times in spite of the cloth. Id also like to mention that its also hard on the cue ball, whitch did leave the table a few times. I started out with 1 ball, and just kept going untill I reached the absolute maximum ability of the jump stick. that happened to be 17 balls.


I didnt notice any wood splitting, but I do see a possibility for such an occurance. I did saturate the wood with super glue prior to installing the tip, I then sanded it slightly then glued on the tip. So the wood does have some support.

Im just wondering if mating the tip straight to the wood is making the differance, as with some cheap jump cues I have purchased were no where near as accurate, perticularly the ones with brass ferrules. The whole point to this thread is me thinking of the possibilty of a jump cue with a ferrule like the OB-1 shafts, where IMO I think you would have an acurate jump cue with the ability to apply monster spin as well. I could imagine how well a jump cue of great quality would perform, as the one I messed with truely is junk.
