Just one more question...

I seem to be in a grey zone regarding the space available for a table. Different charts tell me different things.
The real space I have available is 13'6" x 18'8".
My question now is. Will this space accommodate a 4x8 without having to resort to shorty cues? Having to do this would be a deal breaker for me.
I am looking at a 4x8 Valley that is in great shape (would not need recovering) but have no problem moving to a smaller box.
Thanks again to everyone that responded to my first question.

The playing surface of a 4x8 table is 44"x88"
Standard cue length is 57-58" (5 foot with a couple inches for stroke if you're right on the rail)

So...on the side you need 44" + 5' on each side = 164" or 13'8"
On the ends, 88" + 5' each = 208" or 17'4".

It sounds like you have plenty to spare on the ends, but you're pretty tight on the sides. You can also consider that a pretty high percentage of your shots on the sides are at an angle, so that will help you out.

The only time you'll be real hooked is when whitey is right next to the rail and you're shooting straight across the table.

You also have to take your height into consideration though. If you're fairly tall, you might be uncomfortable being that close to the wall when you shoot.

Again, I think you're fine on the ends, but in a grey area on the sides...it's all up to you.

Another thing to consider is the difference in a 7' table. Their playing surface is 39"x78". So you really only gain 5" of width or 2.5" on either side on the table. Would you be THAT much happier with an extra couple of inches? Enough to make an 8'er a no-go?

Some things to think about. Hope this helps! If my descriptions/distances aren't clear, give me a call or a PM and I'll try to clear it up. Let us know what you decide, and good luck!

Yea... What he said!

Yea!! What he said!! Or the orthe option is to consider a 3.5 x 7 (standard Bar Box size) table.:)

Yup, 3.5x7 is standard size for a bar/coin. But, the playing surface is actually 39"x78"

Same as a 4x8 table's playing area is actually 44"x88"

Just for information purposes, an oversized 8 footer is 46"x92"

And 9' is actually 50"x100" in the play bed.

For these, you're measuring from the inside tip of the rail straight across to the inside tip of the opposite rail. Put simpler, you're measuring the width/length of the area the ball can roll.

The table sizes (7', 8', etc.) are close, but with the difference in rail with and rubber profiles, etc, the playing surface is the standardized measurement.
