Everything that I've read about this case is true.

Far nicer than anything I've seen in stores - and I've looked at a lot.

Solid black exterior, very subdued shouldn't attract unwanted attention.
Blue interior for a nice contrast.
Looks like padding up the wazzoo.
Even had a cloth sock around the exterior for extra protection - that is unlikely needed looked at the way its built.
Much smaller than I thought it would be, I was going to sacrifice size for capacity but it looks like I wont have to.

Very impressed at unboxing, would recommend. Purchased from Seyberts.

I can't wait to receive mine from John. I am getting a 4x8 Ultimate Rugged. It should be here either today or tomorrow.

Ditto for me; got the same thing from Seyberts and my reaction is the same as the poster. Great case.

I have a 4x8 and a 3x4 for tournaments.

The 4x8 is great for going to the pool hall when I want to use different equipment, and it's excellent at the house for storage.

I suppose for a 4x8 it's small and light, but it's big for a cue case.

The 3x4 is great for tournaments. Looks like most 2x3's in size and it is very light. It's nice to be able to use it as a 2x5 if you desire.

Sometimes I use both shoulder straps and I carry my 4x8 back pack style. This makes the case very light and you have two free hands.

I'm far more of a functional guy than a bling guy.

Well actually, I guess I'm purely a functional person and I think my Rugged cases are as good as any case on the planet.

John knocked it out of the park with his ultra pad interior.

We have a few of his cases here, and we love them. Darn if you can't feel safe if you swing around and knock the case off the table and it hits the ground.

Nothing is getting hurt in any of his cases.

Can anyone compare these to the wave case?

This much I know.

John designed the interiors for Sterling Wave Cases.

There were two different JB interiors offered in a Wave case. First the Rebound interior and then later his new Ultra Pad interior.

These interiors are John's design but are not made in his shop. They are made else where in China by Sterling.

Hope that helps.

Can anyone compare these to the wave case?

Interior quality and cue protection is probably about the same...difference is these aren't super ugly on the outside.

The Wave case has a nice overall design with good pockets but I cannot figure out why they don't offer a simple solid black case, or maybe a black/grey combo. Instead they have horrific color combinations or add horrible embossing on the center panels. Never understood that and it kept me from buying a Wave case when I needed something before the Ruggeds were readily available. Great design, ugly execution.

The Basic and Ultimate Rugged cases are excellent in their simplicity. There are some bright colors for those who want them, but you can get a nice all navy or brown/tan combo Ultimate and have a really nice looking simple case. My brown/tan 2x5 is my favorite with my all navy one a close second.

Hey be nice :-) I picked all the materials and textures for the Wave cases.

My personal choice would be Rugged cases with Wave Case pockets. I think I will make some of those soon.

Damn John.... I might have to break out the Sailrite and do some nylon cases......

I'll order one if you want to give it a go.

Oops...sorry John, didn't know that part  Still, ya couldn't have gone with a nice all black? Ha! I'd have had one long ago if that had been an option.

The Rugged cases sure are nice looking though so you've totally redeemed yourself and then some! I really think the sub-$300 case market is going to see a huge impact from these, I just cannot fathom why someone would buy anything but a Rugged at this point unless they're in full custom leather case territory.

Rugged with Wave pockets sounds cool, I want to see that.
