Just saw 9 ball the movie

Hubs gave me the movie as part of my Valentine's day present.

So, do you give your husband's balls back to him ever, or do you have permanent control?

Seriously, as if Valentine's day isn't bad enough normally, you made him spend it watching a horrible movie...with your mother?

It's weird, you look at other sports categories and there are tons of movies showcasing heroic comebacks in the big game. The scrappy football team overcoming their differences to win a championship is pretty much a cliche. You can probably find 50 movies that follow that formula.

And it's not just team things either, there's a few hero golfer movies too where it's all about one guy.

But pool movies, the angle is always something else... not about winning The Big Game, more like... someone trying to get out from under a loanshark's thumb, or someone beating the local bad guy who is also a gangster and wants to murder them.

Something about pool doesn't seem to lend itself to the standard sports movie formula. So pool movies are much fewer and further between than other categories. At least pool is hip enough to get some classics. Name one bowling movie...

Kingpin... yeah I said it.

I bought it with the APA discount. I love any movies pool related, but in this case......

This discussion has been beating to death. Yeah, the acting sucked, yeah the story line sucked, no, they didn't have a Paramount Pictures bank account or a great director or big name actors/actresses.

Is it a pool related/based movie? yes

Will I watch it over and over like I do with The Hustler/TCOM? hell no

I've seen it and overall I liked it, I found it entertaining. Granted there could have been some better acting, and yeah if you don't like the APA it is mentioned quite a bit in the movie.

But hey.....I'll confess.... I'm a pool lover and I love everything to do about the game. To me, the worst day of playing pool is usually better than a good day of work.

My hats off to these guys for making a go at this movie. Some will like it, some will not, such is life. They stepped up to the plate and gave it a try though, I wish the pool industry had more people like them.

Well said, Alan. Your last sentence should be embraced by a whole lot of factions in the industry and maybe things would improve. :thumbup2:
