50% of the population has an astigmatism... Most however are minor and as such the eye doctor may not think much about it when you go see them... As we get older even minor astigmatisms may be troublesome as the lens hardens and you can no loger self correct by the use of a little squinting......

I went 3 months ago and got new contacts.. Doctor mentioned I had a minor astigmatism in the right eye and sent me off with contacts...

For the 3 months I have been back to playing regularly I have came to a point where everything I shoot misses left... Looks perfect... contact looks like I hit where I aim but the ball misses left....

I went back on Friday and talked to the old doc and explained what I was having issues with and I am now sporting a pair of birth control glasses with correction for astigmatism... Can't get contacts because mine is considered minor so they don't make them unless I want hard GP lenses which I will pass on.....

Went to the pool room and set some balls up on the rail... From 9ft away the object ball is seriously an inch to the left of where my eyes say it is without correction... it's like reality is a little narrower than my perception of it... Going to be interesting learning to trust what I see again but hoping this is the right train to yuma.....

This is just food for thought if you look into contacts or glasses... If you have under 1doplar astigmatism they pretty much figure you see good enough without it needing corrected and may not even mention the options... Not happy at all about this but it is what it is......

Another thing I learned was they set the correction in the middle of the lens where your fovea is looking straight forward.. My right is .5mm closer to center than the left. Most people are not symetrical.. I had the girl move the correction higher up onto my lenses so when I look thru the upper hemisphere it's there... She looked at me funny and said they don't normally do that when I asked.. I lauhed and said I'm not interested in what you normally do I have a reason for wanting them that way...

I'll add one thing, very weird possibly, but it's what happened to me!

I've been playing pool for about 9 YRS now and I wear contacts, my eyes are really bad, -7.50, if you understand that, you know I'm prety bad! So anyway, about 3 yrs I went for usual check up and ordered my contacts, a couple days later, I picked up my contacts and didn't bother looking at the numbers, I never really paid attention. So that night, I got home, and popped out my old dirty lenses and put in some fresh ones and proceeded to my basement to bang em around! I noticed an extremely huge difference in my vision, the edges of the ball were extremely crisp and after a few shots I found the main difference which was on my PSR, as my eyes would shift from qb to ob a few times, I never had any contact drift that would effect my vision(yes, the contact is supposed to move on your eye when blinking), like I did before I was in heaven, same contacts, (so I thought), and I just played for a couple hrs and then called it a night! At the end, I just kinda figured I had good night seeing the balls!

Next night, same thing, but I figured I wasn't gonna play to well because I worked an 18 hr day and wasn't feeling to good, but I played, and again, balls were so clear and it bothered me now because it was in my thoughts and I had to go investigate! I checked my contact box and looked at the prescription, it was the same as before-7.50, but the b.c.# was different, it used to be 12.8 and now it's 13.2!!! So the next day, feeling kinda bad, I went to the doctor and told him what happened and he looked at me and said why you bummed out? I told him, because it's the wrong prescription, your probably ly gonna say we need to get you in the correct lens or something! He asked me 1 question,,, are you comfortable in them? I said yes, absolutely!!!!!! Fine he said, use them! He said that doesn't matter, as long as your comfortable!

Keep in mind, I had an old new set of contacts and I experimented a bit, my vision for normal daily routines, between the contacts made absolutely no difference! But, when playing pool, it's night and day! No more of the contact shudder, the balls always stay in place when I'm in my PSR,, ( if you wear contacts, you know what I'm saying) needless to say, I have kept the new lens size too this day!

One more thing, I can honestly say my ball pocketing was a ball better! Seeing the edge made all the difference in the world for me hope this helps
