Just when you think you've heard 'em all...

There's a local independent county league (along with regular BCA, TAP, & APA) in my area. They have separate leagues for men, women, and also scotch doubles. A friend & I were talking about the womens league and he said that they have their own separate rules... he walked into a bar one night during the women's league and a friend of his was playing in a game. He said she was standing off to the side while her opponent was deciding what to shoot and that when he walked by on his way to the bar (had to walk by the tables to get to the bar) he said hello to his friend and kept walking.

His saying hello cost her that game. Apparently, they're not allowed to talk to anyone & no one is allowed to talk to them during their set. It's an automatic loss of the current game in progress.

I haven't talked to anyone else to confirm it but that seems a little extreme. The men's & scotch doubles league doesn't have this rule.

LOL - you're not allowed to talk to anyone about it or it's an automatic loss of life.

Someone put this in the stupid rules category and put the person who actually takes a game because of it into the stupid people category.

I don't really care unless it becomes distracting to me. I mean I don't want a group to form a committee to help the player at the tabel decide what to do on each shot but if they converse and get to the shot quickly then no big deal.

Must have been a gossipy bunch to have made a no-talking rule.

Loss of life    ???? Like one of my favorite comedians, the late, great Rodney Daingerfield would have said : "Whew, that's a tough league, tough league. Are you kiddin'? I don't get NO respect in that room!"

I have a good one that came up the other night. A player shot his 8-ball into a pocket which already had the pocket marker next to it. The other player said "You lost because you did not touch the marker before shooting"

the mind reels..........

Technically, the other player is correct. You are supposed to "re-mark" the pocket.

Stress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

Ah the stress of league pool I'd say its probably worse than $300 a game nine ball.

Wally,
Good to see you posting again...it's been a while. Things are still pretty much the same around here. Working, teaching, and when I get some spare time, I still manage to play some as well!
