just which parts of a cue do termites enjoy the most!??

The only part of a cue I have seen termites actually go after was the shaft. I had a box of shafts sitting over a crack in my garage cement floor and picked it up to find termites eating away through the box and along the bottom shafts. Needless to say I got my house treated. Made me happy I found out on that small box as there were a pallet of 1600 shafts 5 feet away. They could have eat the bottom hundreds up before I got to the bottom and found them. Bare wood with no finish is what they eat.

amazing horror story!

HOWEVER , your post is truly an amazing horror story!
incredibly fortunate you found trouble when you did.
i can only imagine the lousy feeling you had discovering it. (glad it wasnt me!)

I had started getting shaft dowel orders ready out of the new pallet and one box was over the top of the crack. It sat there over the weekend. On Monday when we went to finish the shaft dowel orders it was discovered. Yes, it could have been hundreds or even thousands of dollars in damage had I not discovered the termites. That is just the shaft wood. If they had made it up my walls into my house, tens of thousands in damage. I was able to salvage all the shafts as they had only eaten in about a 1/16" line up the side of the bottom shafts.

the deliciously dark caramel-colored BEM is simply divine, followed by a bit of piquant orange paduuk.

of all the infections a cue can acquire , which is the most terrible?

I would suspect that the under wrap or the shaft would be affected first. Like cue man said, exposed wood most likely would be their first choice. However, Termits are also attracted to moisture so a Linen or uneven a leather wrap may attract them.

I have never seen Termit infestation in a cue, however, I have seen what appears to worm holes in some of the old Brunswick cues I am converting, below are some photo's, let me know what you think.

These worm holes were exposed when I was taking the butt down with the router!!!!!
