Kind of a newbie to this forum but.........a pool friend of mine were discussing the game of 9-ball & throwing around different ideas to possibly make the game less "lucky" & more competitive.

The first idea was have "call shot" on all pocketed balls, especially any unforeseen caroms or billiards, if a ball drops & not called, it would be a foul & ball in hand the incoming shooter. The second idea was to have 2 push outs during a game. I'm sure everybody has had a critical game or set influenced by an opponent's missed shot with the cue ball being accidently behind another ball. If this was to occur, you could push to hopefully, an advantageous position. If seems unfair to be penalized (being hooked) from a mistake or missed shot by your opponent. I don't see this addition slowing down the game. Now this wouldn't eliminate all the "luck factor" in 9-ball but certainly decrease it to some degree.

The other idea was to have final matches, instead of being a single race to 9,11, 13 or whatever, be 2 out 3 sets w/races to 5 for each set, kind of what you see on ESPN but instead of having a single game winnner take all after a set apiece, the 3rd & final set would be a race to 5 & the winner would have to win by 2 games. It would add a little drama & the 9th game(hill game) wouldn't be won by a nine on the break or lucky carom.

just wondering.......

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another one who wants to rid nine ball of defense, kicking and two way shots, despite the fact that these are the only aspects of nineball that really are interesting.
