I finally got time to finish a cue and use one of the leather wraps I purchased from JW Petree. They are awesome. I bought several different patterns and they are all top notch. Best I've run across!

The color of that wrap fits that cue nicely Chris! I like JW Petree's wraps too.

I have purchased over 50 blanks from JW up until now, and they have been very good. Great Pricing, and stands behind the leather... BTW Nice contrast on the cue - CamposCues.

Everybody has their own tastes, of coarse, but I kind of thought that that color of wrap was a little to much on that cue. It matches the color of the cue to closely. I think I would have liked the wrap a little different color so that there would be a little bit of contrast. Just my opinion of coarse.

Wrap

I can see your point and I thought the same thing at first. I purchased many different wrap styles and colors from JW. I liked the color of a couple different styles with this cue but I went with the one I did inspite of the fact it matched so closely in color because of the pattern. The pattern just complements the knots in the amboyna burl. It really looks great in person. I appreciate the feedback Dick.

I can understand the point of the lack of contrast, but It still looks really nice to me. It's almost a perfect match for the wood. Nice work you did on It:)

JWPetree's

Ditto on the quality of the leather and JW's great to deal with.
I like the wrap, but be a man and show us the seam. Just kidding:)
Personally I think its a good color for the cue, my only comment would be that the croc is a little busy for the burl in the butt sleeve.

Seam

Actually the top pic is of the seam but it's not a close up. I'll man up when I get home and show the seam;)

Ferrule

Oh yeah, that is one of those OB-1 shafts I fitted for this cue. They have a strange ferrule. It's like like wafer thin slices of wood laminated. When I first got it I thought it might be annoying while aiming because I'm so use to a white ferrule. I shot with the cue last night at league for the first time. It took a few racks to get use to the shaft because it's not as stiff as what I'm use to but it really moves the cue ball around easy. The ferrule color didn't bother me at all.

Can you explain the ferrule as well? It too looks a bit different, maybe it is just the picture.

Okay, here's the seam as promised. I was hoping no one would call me out on it;) It came out okay. Now if I could just learn how to write legibly on a dang round piece of wood. I can never get a nice looking signature. Quite possibly the largest cue building hurdle I've had to deal with j/k. I'm thinking of going with the story that I have my 3 year old son sign them for me to make them special!

LOL on Signing a cue. Here is what I do, and I did struggle with is some a few years ago. If you have a pool table put he cue next to the rail, and use the top of the rail to rest your hands. I use a .003 photo pen, and scribble a little. Finer line IMO makes the signature not look like my child did it. Another idea is to let your wife sign them, usually their signatures are lots better than a mans. If you do not have a table (Shame on You) use a piece wide wood, and do the same. Makes it a lot easier on me for sure to do the signature this way. Seam looks pretty good BTW. Hope this helps

Hey nothing to worry about with a seam like that. Looks great, especially in Gator. I think most cue makers where Doctors in another life, at least that's what our hand writing looks like. Great tip on holding the cue against the table rail. It usually takes me 3 or 4 tries, each followed by much cursing and a quick wipe with lacquer thinner to get something legible.
Could be why people engrave pins of sign under the bumper. With me it has nothing to do with the curve, my hand writing sucks and to top it off, I hold the darn thing in the wrong hand.

I too have a hard time signing cues. I am not known for good writing on flat surfaces much less round.

This reminds me of a time I sold a jump cue to a guy and I signed it. He called me and said the stamp I stamped the cue with did a horrible job and I should let him get me a stamp made that wouild do a good job. I told him it was not stamped but my actual signature. He started apologizing and told me how much he appreciates it once he knew I had signed it. He was just trying not to hurt my feelings at that point. He was right. My signature looked lousy just like my real life handwriting and that is why I engrave my logo now.

That's a good idea about putting it next to the rail. I will for sure try that next time. Thanks for the tips and funny stories. I'm glad I'm not alone in the signature battle.

try new way
