Kaiser cues?

I was given a kaiser cue by a friend. It obviously has been "well loved", and by that I mean I think they deliberately chalked the shaft, and perhaps used billiard chalk on their hands instead of talc, and also never cleaned it.

It seems to be in ok condition otherwise, besides a few nicks in the butt. The shaft is super dirty, but has no dings, and it has a quick lock joint.

Anyway, I was going to clean it up and pass it to a new player on my team who doesn't have a cue. I looked it up and it it looks J&J sells them. This seems to be mid-range from what they offer with some uneven points and actual wood rings not decals, but I am guessing this is an older design.

Anybody have any more info on these? How do they hit?

Alright, I'll be the one to ask. Why are you asking about the hit of a cue you own?

 Because I have never bothered to take it to the hall. I got it and then stowed it, and just today found it sitting there. I am sitting here trying to get it clean.

The first time I will hit with it, is when I pass it along to her. Mostly I was curious if they are decent or if it is total shit. Also if anybody knows any more about these.

Decent, mid-level Chinese cue. Fairly good quality when you factor in the prices these bring.

The big pin

That doesnt look like the big pin. The big pin hits pretty good.

Their SW knockoffs where known as a great bargain for what you got for the price. This is not one of those though, probably about the quality of a Players/Action cues.

Hey players aren't bad for the price. That's my normal recommended cue for a new player not wanting to spend too much. The action is great on those cues. Anyway I think she will like it thanks. Couldn't get it totally clean without seriously digging into the shaft but it's good enough.

A good way to clean the shaft is to steam it and wipe with a micro fiber cloth and continue a few times. There are videos on UTube. Then burnish, you may also need to sand with a very fine paper like 1000 or 2000 before burnishing.

Some have had good results with the Magic Eraser.

Went out to second hand shops w a buddy looking for pool cues. We found a Kaiser in a 2x3 case w two shafts. Got a great deal on it I thought, $40.

I was surprised to see no receiving metal sleeve for the pin, just wood.

I've played it, hits well, no trouble moving the ball around.

Used a Kaiser butt with a 314/2 shaft for a while waiting to get my Richard Neighbours butt back. Played well with it. Not as great as a high quality cue but had response and feel. That experience showed me that the shaft and butt hold equal importance to getting the right feel from the cue.

It's a great gesture to give it to a player that needs a cue.:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

It's fine for a starter cue, and should be a decent basic cue for anybody. The player will adjust to how it plays IMHO.

They could choose to upgrade the shaft later too.
