Kamui Chalk discussion

Own a cube, have experimented with it for a couple of months. In terms of adherence, it's the best chalk ever, unfortunately, it also adheres to the cue ball (the dotted measles cue ball in particular) much better than any other chalk, which I happen to find a HUGE problem. Other than that, it's true one can play several racks without chalking up, although I've now figured out I could play whole racks using either Masters, Blue Diamond (my third favourite) or Cosmo (my second favourite). All these brands will do as far as I'm concerned, although in different climates, my preference might change (chalk invariably works best here in dry winter, other seasons can be a problem for e.g. Masters). What I'm using my Kamui chalk for now is every time I have to reshape my tip, or when I'm putting on a new one, I'll put a bottom layer of Kamui on it until the roughened-up tip surface turns smoother again, then use e.g. Masters or Blue Diamond over it. In other words, at this rate it'll serve me a lifetime, putting the price into perspective. Thus far, I couldn't find a single type of shot I do better or worse using Kamui chalk.

Greetings from Switzerland, David.

Glad, that someone else also is doing the same :)
I also use Kamui as a layer -and then just the regular chalk. Works great. But really looking forward to the newer version 1.21, where the problem with the CB had been fixed (i m curious^^).

Hm,

seeing ppl discussing if chalk causes more or less swerve makin me a bit afraid, lol.........

Have courage my friend............

You have nothing to fear except fear itself. The sky will not fall, I PROMISE.

Since English is not your mother language (although you write quite well) I thought I would include a link to a story about another Chicken Little, besides the one who occasionally posts in this forum. :D

You can read the short American version of Chicken Little and the story behind "the sky is falling" by clicking here.

I gave the kamui chalk another chance, used it for 2 outings. First thing I noticed is the marks on the cue ball arent as bas as I had thought. Just dont use it to break like I did.

However, the next thing I noticed is extra swerve(not less deflection). So much so, that I missed more shots than usual. I felt the same way when trying the kamui tips out, they grab so much its overkill. I dont want to have to make any extra adjustments, so this piece of chalk should last me years. To me this stuff is masse chalk, if there is such a thing. Good for jump shots, severe masse shots, maybe even an occasional long distance draw shot. Maybe its worth it to get used to the difference, like a new cue. Just seems unnecessary to me unless i need max spin or grab for whatever reason.

New KAMUI 1.21 chalk ships mid May, harder compound, less compound transfer to cueball. Same low price.HAHA. maybe next comes different colors. they could at least make it as big as other cubes. There are not alot of chalk holders that hold it well especially the ones they sell

My cube is over 1 year old now and is about 1/2 gone.
I think it is worth it to me.

Haven't read the whole thread. I got my first cube of the original last week.

I apply the Kamui then I chalk with blue diamond every shot for the sake of my pre-shot routine. I use the Kamui every couple games.

Should last a couple years.

Btw thanks to Jbcues for the idea. I had watched his video and he liked combining Kamui then masters.

Well I got my cube last week and figure I can give a little review. I think I will post pros to the chalk first. This is for Kamui v.98.

PROS

- This stuff adheres to the tip in a ridiculous way. I wasn't planning on going to the hall the day I got it because I have had a terrible cold lately so I just put it on my tip at the house. After that I tried to take it off with my Last4Ever tip tool and it wasn't even coming off using a scuffer.

- Add to it adhering to the tip that you don't have to chalk over and over. It really does stay on for a few racks. I was actually pretty impressed with this. Taking this into consideration you could say it will make your tip last longer as well if you don't have to keep scuffing it to make chalk stay on it longer.

- Added spin. I didn't think this would actually happen, but it did. It didn't effect how I play normal spin shots at all since I don't normally travel more than 1 tip right or left of center. I did however try to play a slight masse shot and the CB took off and missed the mark by about three balls on a shot I rarely ever miss the whole ball. On the rare occasion I do miss it's because of lack of spin and never too much. I would have to relearn that shot entirely because of this chalk.

- It's a very fine grain chalk. Because of this it doesn't dust off onto your hands and your cue. I think this is how it stays on your tip so well. It's a fine enough grain to basically imbed into your tip which is probably why it's such a pain to get off your tip.

CONS

- The price. This could be considered negligible considering how long a cube could last you, but when you consider that chalk at the pool hall is free you get the drift.

- This stuff really stays on the tip!!!!!! While this is a great thing it's also a pain. I take the chalk off my tips before I put them back in my case. I used a scuffer, a napkin and my fingers before I put the cue up.

OVERALL

Is it a necessary item to your case? Absolutely not. Masters works well and it's free. I should retract that. If you do trick shots, or want to practice masse I would say this is an absolutely necessary item to have.

It does grab the CB very well, but so does Masters. If you have a good stroke the effect is even until you use masse where Kamui leaves Masters in the dust. If you miscue with Masters you won't as much with Kamui, but that won't fix your stroke. I highly suggest you trudge through the mud to get a good stroke before you even consider getting this chalk.

I would highly recommend this chalk for break tips, jump cues, masse and other trick shots. I would also recommend it for ppl who prefer to not chalk as part of their PSR. Overall I would say that it does what it says it will do and the hype was brought about by the community.
