I have wondered this for a while, but why is it when Karen wins an event she gets no praise for the win? You don't see her name everywhere as you would other players - not even here on AZ, which I am surprised to see as they cover everyone. Am I missing something?

Thanks,

Way to go Karen. I don't get it either. I met her here in Florida last year. She's a very nice down to earth person. Johnnyt

Two years ago at the Peoria tournament I watched her smoke some poor mortal in the last round of play on Friday night. During that match she missed ONE open shot. After everyone else had drifted away to the bar or the casino or wherever, Karen was still at that table practicing that shot. Needless to say, I was very impressed. It's no wonder that she plays as well as she does.

A Great Pool Lady

Yes, agreed. I watched the past weekend's tournament on the WPBA charts. Karen does not live far from me and I met her at her local pool hall for a tournament. She came in 2nd in a 15 hour marathon. ;) U could not ask for a nicer person to represent pool. Very friendly and polite. Way to go Karen.

i think its great some players like their privacy. Forcing money players to do tv stuff just might not make for a good show, ever watch the IPT commentaries.

Karen is a great ambassador for the game itself and she presents herself well and treats others with respect however she could also benefit if she let herself be more open to allowing herself to be promoted like the other women players do

what about all this new millenia logic I get from a friend about equal treatment and girls arent just some barbie doll. And meriting them on skill and talent just like the guys.

These are not my personal views.

Tap, Tap.
Karen and Julie step up on the Joss tour and it definately adds an extra touch of class to the events.

Have no probelem meriting them on their ability and talent...but why not make the most of all their attributes as well as talent...some are too reserved

maybe she has no charisma or that certain "something" that people gravitate to.

Maybe because she is so shy she seems unapproachable

That is very true, she is really shy--I've been to dinner with her and Julie, and Julie is much more extroverted than Karen. They are both really nice people but, Karen is just the quieter of the two. I think she is fine just the way she is, lets leave the showman ship to Jeanette and Karen can do her talking on the pool table!

But wouldnt it better karen if she could do both like jeanette? i mean even after she wins a tourney its hard to tell she has won lol

She's not blonde and she wears glasses. Let's face it, the WPBA capitalizes on looks. If it was all a matter of ability, men's pool would get as much attention or more despite the fact that they aren't as organized.

Maybe that singular intensity and dedication is what allows or affords her to be as great as she is and win. Maybe if she was more like Jeanette as you say, if her personality was different, she wouldn't be the same player and we would not be talking about her.

I think you are asking too much of her, it is not her style...there are plenty of other players that can market themselves and pool. Jen Barretta for example--kcpoolfan just love her the way she is.

Nothin wrong with karen's looks and we know there is noting wrong with her game
I agree, there's nothing wrong with her looks. But it so happens I don't determine what the media markets as "attractive."

I completely agree if the choice is hers to not be in the public eye as much as other players.....but, is that the case? [if someone answered later in the post, I haven't gotten that far yet] I was not sure and always wondered why she did not have the same exposure after wins.....

On a side note, I have not had a chance to hear the IPT commentaries yet.....anything interesting said there?
