Well Im fairly new around here and probably still a beginner compared to a lot of you on the table. I am in the Kansas City area and just curious who else around here plays in this area. So far I play at a place that almost every game is 8-ball Valley or APA. There are some good players there that have taught me a lot but I dont get the diversty of seeing or learning too many other games or seeing anything but that. Where do you all play around here and where is a good place to go to see or learn a wider scope of the game. I ve played at a few other places but just wanted to to hear some opinions and try to learn something. Thanks

Just curious where you play? Do you play leagues, tournaments, matches? There are several nice places to play that have very good competition depending on what part of the city that you live. The Side Pockets in Blue Springs boasts pro Danny Harriman as the house pro as well as tournaments and I hear a straight pool league. The Brass Rail up north holds tournaments almost every night of the week. They match the pot and on Tuesday add an extra $100 for the winner. It brings out very good competition. In Olathe KS, Shooters holds a top quality tournament about 4 times a year that includes a one pocket tournament. Some of the best players in the world have played their at one time or another. There are several good players in the area such as Danny, David Matlock, Gene Albrecht, and a few others.

Shooters in Olathe is where I usually end up when visiting the KC area. Good mix of bar boxes and big tables, with a Diamond or two thrown in the mix. The place seems to attract a little more serious crowd than a couple of the other places I've been to in the area. Raytown Rec used to be a pretty good place to go as well, but I'm not even sure if it's still there. Someone who lives in the area will have to advise on that one.

Thanks for the reply's. I play at The Clarette Club in Mission on the Kansas side. I have been going there for about the last 10 years but really only got serious about playing pool in the last few years. I have played the in-house league there in the past and now I just sub in. Its a pretty small atmosphere there its 12 bar boxes and pretty much everyone knowns at least who everyone there is. Dont get me wrong I love playing its a great place just would like to see some other places. I heard Shooters is a good place to see some good players and will probably head there when I can find the time. Working 2 jobs doesnt give a lot of time to play. Thats why I normally end up and The Clarrette I can walk there if needed

How is Side Pockets in Lenexa? I have been in there over lunch hour a few times but never during peak hours. Do they get very busy?

Side Pockets Blue Springs

I am one of the Tournament Directors and BCA League Directors for SP-Blue Springs. We have weekly tournaments on the bar tables Monday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Big Table tournaments on Sundays @ 1 that rotate between 8-ball, 9-ball, and one pocket. We have leagues available about every night of the week....and have proven to be a pretty good spot to always find someone willing to play about any game. Send me a pm if you would like to know more.

Small world. I play at the Clarette on Thursdays in the Vegas league. As far as Raytown Rec, there is a lot of history and If you want to play 3 cushion it has a great heated table but I don't know how much serious play there is at the Rec anymore. I don't get to Lenexa much but it has a pretty good crowd and several leagues. They have a pretty good 9 ball tournament on Sunday evening.
