Keep missing key shots

Mark...This is exactly why I suggested to you that getting a lesson with a qualified instructor would help you a LOT. As I mentioned, I'll be in NYC next week (Wed and Thurs), and I will come out to Long Island if you want. It's an investment in your game that will pay big dividends in years to come. One thing you'll learn is why you keep missing these key shots, and how to self-correct that error immediately. Call me if you want to schedule something, as my time is very limited.

I am curious to know how an instructor can solve this problem. I am thinking that this is more psychological than physical. Or, am I wrong? Is it a combination of both? This type of thing happens in other sports like baseball, for example, when a batter freezes up or gets the jitters in a tight situation. Also, a pitcher that pitches lights out when he is ahead, but can't get the ball over the plate if he is behind a couple of runs. These guys are sent to sports psychologists to help sort out the problem.

I would be willing to spend the money for an instructor if I knew that it would solve the problem. It has been a real problem for me. I don't often get beat, but I lose too often. In other words, I give the game away on the last ball or two. Very interesting to hear how others have solved this.

When it comes down to the last shot ive been literally sweating and i just cant keep my nerves down. My mental game was never the best, but after i missed that first 8ball ive been terrified to shoot game winning balls.

There isn't a one size fits all answer because we are all unique. You have major fear about missing the winning ball and losing. If you can identify what it is, then you can begin to address it. Pay attention to what your thinking and feeling when this occurs, and try to understand it after the match. Dig deep and be honest with yourself.

My suggestion would be to see a psychologist. They are well suited to help you work through these issues. Having a clue as to what's going on will help them help you.

I have just 4 words for you..."Pleasures Of Small Motions" by Bob Fancher. You are simply distracted...by the ability to win!
