Keeping cool while playing, anyone know much about A/C?

I know its the winter and not exactly relevant at the moment, but I'm planning ahead for my pool room. Heck I've actually had to turn on the central a/c a few days this week.

So I have an enclosed garage(was a 2 car), with very poor insulation due to having 11 windows. About 14.5x24', ~ 350sqft.

In the summer, it routinely gets to the equivalent of outside temperate, 90+ degrees in the room. South Louisiana, a normal summer day is about 95 degrees, 105 heat index.

I have access to a 10K BTU window a/c unit that is hooked up elsewhere, that I can put in the garage. Would that be enough or do I need a 15K BTU unit? I've been eyeing an LG 15K BTU for about $400.

Under normal conditions, a 10-12K BTU rated for 400sqft, but believe me, this room can get scorching hot.

How do you Texas guys handle the heat??

I have one of those lgs, the 12k btu one. It's awesome. I would go for the 15 for an uninsulated room. They are pretty inefficient so maybe plan on your electric bill spiking if you're out there a lot. I point mine kinda toward where we sit and adjust the vents so the air goes straight up. It's awesome the cool air just sorta trickles down very comfortably.
 
I would consider insulating. At the very least you should probably put plastic bubble wrap inside the frames of all those windows followed by a sheet of regular plastic. You may never have heard of anyone doing that but it will significantly insulate your windows. This will help you to be able to more easily maintain the temperature in the garage year round. The air bubbles will be heated by the sunlight in the winter and cooled by the ac in the summer. The closer you can keep the room to the temperature you want it to be most of the time the less work your heat or ac will need to do to get it there. You might be surprised at how much money you can save while making your garage more comfortable year round.
 
most all of your heating and cooling issues can be solved by putting insulated sheeting under the trusses in the garage. then its easy to heat and cool. put your 400 there first.
 
Insulation, and those styrofoam garage door insulation panels are key!
 
11 windows in a garage that is 350sq.ft. Are you serious? :)

Do not over size the AC. If over sized the AC will keep the temp down but the humidity will not be controlled.

First off insulate the walls and the ceiling to the max. The temp in your area is an issue but the real issue is humidity.

The 10K window unit should do the job. The idea is too keep the 10K unit running to remove the humidity. Shade the windows that are exposed to the morning and evening sun. Insulation is the key. Insulation is cheap.

After insulating the best that you can I would recommend two smaller units since you have all of those windows. Try to space them opposite of each other.
