Ken Stabler

Stabler had great presence of mind under pressure. His wholly roller play forced a rule change as the game ended and he deliberately fumbled the ball forward to Casper for a TD! When he met Matuzak, the first think John asked him was, "Where an I get a gun"?

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Back to when the NFL was the NFL...

Today? Well, that's what you get when "political correctness" takes over.

Way too many bullsh1t pass interference calls! Let the players play is what I say. I see too many games decided by the officials, when they call meaningless penalties.

Which, btw is the animal in my picture. Wish I could focus like that little guy!

A Mongoose you say huh? And here I always thought it was a Meerkat, you know, like those things on that show Meerkat Manor?
Are more than 1 Mongoose called Mongeese????
Other notable drag racers:
The Professor
The Grump
Sarge
and Mr. Shifter to name a few.

Or like yesterday, when the refs killed a play in motion, because they didn't have time to get out on the field?!!!! WTF?!

Realize the road to the super bowl went thru the Raiders. If it wasn't for a real fluke, Franco's immaculate reception, the Snake probably would have had two Super Bowl rings!

Saw Grumpy's Toy and The War Wagon many times. Of course the Little Red wagon was cool too. We used to either go to Great Lakes Speedway or US 30 back in the 60's and early 70's I used to build their model cars as a child. I could go on and on...lol

Talk about "bad ass", they probably would have head butted Roger Goodell if he would have dared show his face on the field.
They called Jack Tatum, "The Assassin", and rightly so. Unfortunately Daryl Stingley was one of his victims. I remember talk about a point system that the players on that team used. Points were awarded on a basis of how hard you hit a player and how long he stayed down, carried off the field, or had to leave the game.

For us older generation sport fans, we can remember when football was football. Do you remember Dick Butkus? Deacon Jones once said, " every time he hit you, he tried to put you in the cemetery not the hospital".

Football has evolved into a sport that is a lot safer than years ago. Eventually they will remove tackling as being to dangerous and you'll just have to slap the guy with the ball and holler "I gotcha".

Oh, a bit of trivia, In 1905 there were 18 deaths from football. Teddy Roosevelt, supposedly was involved in changing or saving the game. Deaths were attributed to "unnecessary roughness".

You'll notice the safety is fixin' to put a forearm slap to the head before Tatum puts a shoulder pad to the head . They game was much slower then and linebackers might not weigh but 210 . Tatum was a linebacker at Ohio State .

One New Years and Stabler was in Caesars Palace and was playing a $500 slot machine there, about 1980 , something of that. A few guys said he lot of heart to play and was a good guy.

In 1980 Kenny could have won another ring but with the Oilers but got stopped by a big play Oakland team. That was Earl's best statistical year, 1934 yards, NFL MVP, Offensive MVP. Unfortunately the Oilers secondary gave up too many long passes that day. Three years in a row for the Oilers to lose to the eventual Superbowl champs. 78 - Pitt, 79 - Pitt, 80 - Oak. Then Bud Adams, in his infinite wisdom fired Bum and the Oilers went to crap for a decade.
