Hi RJ. Lexington is a nice town to visit for sure. As for pool, we only have a few options unfortunately. The two remaining billiards halls are Yesterdays billiards at 410 W Vine St #139, Lexington, KY 40507 and The Silver Cue at 694 E New Circle Rd, Lexington, KY 40505. Both have furniture grade tables of varying quality. The Silver Cue does offer up valley bar boxes and a few 9' tables, though they mostly have 8' tables. Yesterday's has all 8' steepleton talbes. Of the two, Yesterday's has better ambiance and is centrally located in the lower level of Rupp Arena. It will be mobbed if UK is playing there, though they are not scheduled to play on Saturday. The Silver Cue has more actual pool players and if you are looking for some action, then that will be the place, though action is scarce these days.
As for Mexican fare, I would recommend
El Rancho Tapatia located at 138 Burt Rd, Lexington, KY 40503 is an excellent option. Can't really go wrong with anything on the menu, though there tamales and chille relleno (w/ beef) is exceptional. Fajita's are always a winner as well, as are the enchilada's with mole sauce. It is located just a few miles away from UK campus.
El Toro located at 1917 Nicholasville Road, Lexington KY 40503 is good as well. Can't really go wrong with either of these.
If you like Greek fare,
The Athenian Grill is quite tasty.
Best value for higher end fare (though their burgers are quite good too) might be
The Tulip on Romany Road.
Edit: can't leave out
Winchell's on Southland drive. Everything they serve is delicious and they have the best hot wings/buffalo chicken sandwich ever. Smoked jalapeno sauce is great. IF you can successfully eat all 12 of their hottest wings, then they are on the house. They are firey hot and taste great. My best effort is 4 then I called it quits. They also serve some great local fare like the KY Hot Brown. Great for breakfast too.
My wife and I are foodies and I could go on given that we have so many good options and genres here. Let me know if you need/want any more suggestions.
And welcome to the South, er, the north of the South, lol.
Cheers,
JL
