FYI: ABC News "Nightline" is running a segment tonight on Kevin Trudeau, the founder of the IPT, who does appear to have a interesting past.

KEVIN TRUDEAU
He was the King of Infomercials, those products that tout self-help and self-improvement and claim to sometimes even save your life. Kevin Trudeau was better at promoting those products than most. But then one day he was banned. The first person ever banned from selling a product on the air. This particular product claimed to cure cancer and the Bureau of Consumer Protection said, enough. We'll bring you Jake Tapper's January interview with fast-talking Trudeau.

you think it may have something to do with pharmaceutical money ?

yeah it must because of pharmaceutical money. people in that industry never get cancer so they want to keep the cure under wraps in order to make more money. the truth is the real cure for cancer was found at area 51. i was thinkin bout writing a book about it and making 40 million dollars.

The last few days there was a scientific study that found a product that can cure, or is it prevent, cancer. There has been a lot of talk about it. It is good old beer. Only problem is that one would have to consume 17 cans of beer a day.

Is this a crackpot study? Is the scientist a crackpot? Or is this another scam?

But I am seriously thinking of trying this remedy.

My only problem is do I really want to cut down on my beer consumption?

What you need to do is not cut down your beer consumption, but simply increase your coffee consumption. In the news today:

Coffee stops liver rot in big drinkers

DRINKING coffee could help protect you from liver disease caused by alcohol, research shows. People who drink one cup of coffee a day are 20 per cent less likely to suffer alcoholic cirrhosis than those who drink none...

Coffee and a beer, please.

I'm not sure I'd trust a scientific study that only took a few days, even though their medicine agrees with me ;)

You got a pointer to the study jjjinfla ? How's anybody to comment on it's legitimacy without a few details ?

Mmmmm, 17 cans of Labatt Lite, yummy .... 17 cans of Stella I could do without !

there are more people working in the area of oncology than there are people who have cancer. also the pharmaceutical companies , who are not at all interested in curing anything, are worth billions more to abc ( espn) , than eightball would be ...

Trudeau is a con artist. Watch the show, and hopefully they will state the facts. He has been banned by the government from selling several things, and he buys his way out and always finds something else to sell that doesnt fall under his previous legal troubles. His new thing is the book angle, and that will be taken away as soon as there are enough consumer complaints that his books are old wives tales and home remedies that dont help. Remember this is a guy who has hawked everything from "how to get a better memory" to "how to cure cancer".
His talent is marketing, he can sell pretty much anything, but please dont let him sell the idea to you that he is anything but a con man.
If you want to buy his snake oil, go ahead..... just dont pay too much for it.

hopefully when you do watch the show you will keep in mind that it is in the interest of the network that Mr. Trudeau does not do well , and that the pharmaceutical companies do. people have overcame many different diseases including every kind of cancer , i personally have met many people who have. but you will not see they're story on nightline or 60 minutes anytime soon ...

bicyclist Lance Armstrong cured his own cancer.

he probably got KT's book but wont tell anyone else about it.

It has nothing to do with the pharmaceutical companies...... he was a con man before he got into the home health care business (books, cures etc). Please, check his past history. I am very happy he decided to promote pool, as I said he is a great salesman.......... but he is a con man first and foremost.
If you are thinking its the little guy vs big brother/the machine....... you are biting on his well conceived plan. He looks like an angel, cause the big bad government doesnt want the word on his cures to be made public...... think about it..... thats all Im saying.

I know that I like to poke fun, and make jokes around here, but lets talk about marketing and billiards.

I can think of dozens of alternative interest sports that would Kill for a someone with financial backing and great marketing skills to promote their game.

Mike Siegel? His "mouth"? Please, not many in the billiard world take the shtick seriously. It's just part of his game, like a lot of players.

But take that and market it, make him a "Billiard Icon", and you have something there; One person that the common man can identify with. KT understands this.

It's comical to most here that any one of the shooters playing are not capable of winning a race to eight against Siegel. Shoot Siegel straight to the finals? Why?

But that's not the point, and KT understands that.

Selling the game of billiards, creating drama and winning an audience is best thing he can do to promote the game.

Most alternative sport don't even know where to begin.

Don't forget that for maximum effect, you are supposed to have the 17 beers with four large pizzas.

i admit i dont know much about the pharm. topic. i am also sure you have read a lot more about it then me. maybe you can answer a couple questions so i can under stand where you are coming from, and why i shouldnt trust doctors and people in the pharm industry.
1. people born 1000 yrs ago had a life expectancy of 24 yrs. 100 yrs ago it was 50 yrs. 50 yrs ago it was 66. now it is around or maybe more then 80. it seems to me modern medicine had a hand in helping us live 3 times longer.
2. i know your saying they dont cure things, but maybe thats a little hard to do. maybe they arent keeping the secret formula from everyone though. and what about all the things doctors can do to improve peoples lives. such as hip replacements, organ transplant, spinal surgries.... by the way those would be hard/impossible to do with out pharmaceuticals such and blood thinners, antibotics....
3. what would you do if say you were working in the garden cut your hand pretty bad and there was a real risk you could get tetanus? would you see a doc and get a tetanus shot or would you just skip that and hope your jaw doesnt lock up?

i sincerely hope the ipt does well. i love the thought of multi millionaire pool players. i just cant respect KT. i was watching the the LJ vs MS match and his ad came on saying theres a natural cure for cancer and herpes so buy my book. that just doesnt seem right to me.

doctors saved my life , if i got in an accident i would certainly want to go straight to a hospital...that does'nt change the fact that drugs are over prescribed. think about it , the quarters you drop in the table are nothing compared to money made from the drugs consumed by the masses ....a medically prescribed drug per person every 24 hours in the u.s. and great britain..... i'm not sure about Mr. trudeau , i dont know enough about him , but i think the pharm industry is out of control ....

fair enough. i am not way saying the corporate world is super moral either. and i could agree certain things are over prescribed, and im not sticking up for the fat cats who get rich off of it. but there are scientists working hard for the real cures for these diseases and doing plenty of good who will neevr get rich doing so. then you have KT saying in his book to wear white and jump up and down on a trampoline and you will feel better.

sorry i know this topic has been beaten to death before. and no matter what someone says people will believe what they want.

In watching Nightline tonight, it appears that they changed their original programming so that the segment on Trudeau was not shown. In any event, if you're interested, here's the transcript from the January interview:
http://abcnews.go.com/Nightline/story?id=1503856

In my opinion, despite the quackery associated with Trudeau's "Natural Cures," I think that Trudeau and the IPT has been great for the game of 8-ball and for the players.
