Kicking with break cue

Recently I have been kicking with my break cue with a phenolic tip. This way I get less unwanted english on the ball and perform more reliable kick-safties.
Anyone else try using their break cues for kick shots instead of their playing cues?

no, i tend to use my kick cue.

I use my regular cue for almost all those kicks, I want the option of juicing the ball, and am very careful when doing the one rail kicks to be sure any english that goes on the cue ball is intended. I much prefer having that option than just a straight shot no english shot. After several successful kicks and jumps many times your opponent will give up trying to get ball in hand, and seeing their exasperation is quite amusing...

I never use my jump cue for kicking. Why kick when you can jump?

I am not a fan of jumping. I only jump, with my playing stick, when a defensive kick is out of the question.

Kicking ...

Since I have been playing with my break cue, yes I kick with it. After one
night of jumping, but missing about 3 jumps, I said to hell with it, and just
used my playing cue to jump and made the next 4 jumps. For some reason,
my jumping with the Scorpion jumper is not as accurate as with the Frog or
my playing cue. I think it is because I am a little heavy handed when jumping.

While some kicks I play require center hits, most do not. Adjusting the angles with siding and/or curving the path with top/bottom are pretty common when I kick. If those phenolic tips are as slippery as some make them out to be, I'd be mis-cueing like crazy. I'll stick with my ElkMaster (pun intended) on the playing cue for kicks, and continue to work on perfecting a straight accurate stroke.

if you're getting enough "unwanted english" that you're having problems........i'd suggest working on your fundamentals.

Hey, everyone has puts some unintended english on it even if they don't think they are.

I have seen Gabe Owen completely miss a ball on a simple kick shot that was a total of 3 feet, thus giving him the 3rd foul and loss of game. If that cue ball didn't have the unintended english, he could have one that game.

yes, but if you have to go to the extreme of using a phenolic tip, thats a bit more than "unintended"

mistakes(like gabe's) happen, but having it happen all the time is completely different.

Many kick shots require draw, follow, or sidespin to execute properly. I can understand using it for kick shots where you just want to hit dead center, but with a decent stroke that should be no problem with your playing cue.....
