Will somebody out there with first-hand knowledge please educate me? I understand that Cole must have been a tremendous player to garner the attention he gets, however, I have never personally seen him play. If there's anyone out there in Forum Land who has, I would certainly appreciate a little enlightment.

Thanks for the education!

I first saw him play in 1965 or so. He was about 16 and fearless at nine ball, but avoided one pocket. Later he played in some of Terry Stonier's 14.1 tournaments in Sacramento, and could run 80 but not like any 14.1 you've ever seen. He also played in Terry's 9 ball tourneys and was the only player I've seen play the cue ball from the spot to go off the corner of the side pocket and straight down the side rail to get a hit. He still plays some, including one pocket, but I think he plays cards more now.

Cole was awsome...............

I saw Cole play many times including in Detroit. One of the best times I have ever seen him play was on W. Varner Ave (Chat 'N Shoot) and he was playing Cornbread Red. I also saw him play in St. Louis and at many action spots throughout the mid-west back in the early '70's. He had the longest golden blond hair and he was the typical Hippie of the "70's. He was always a Man Of His Word and if he owed you - You Got It!
I once had the local Godfather of St. Louis call me at 3 am and ask me what I knew of him. He had just busted Cole at Gin and Cole owed him large. I didn't know Cole well enough to Stand Up for him - But - I told him (as far as I know) IT WAS AS GOOD AS MONEY IN THE BANK.
Now I was beating this Godfather out of some good scores daily and didn't want to blow my creditability. Cole didn't know WHO he was playing and ended up owing - BUT - Just as I had predicted - Cole sent the $ by western union 2 days later.
GOOD MAN!

Pose this question to Keith McCready. Keith and Cole played a lot in California when they were young.

I asked a guy last night about Cole. He used to sweat a lot of Cole's games back in the early 70's. He said that Cole had people lined up waiting to play him because of his style. He said that people felt that they couldn't lose after watching him play.

Cole, couldn't get any action in, Baton Rouge, in the mid 70s so they called, Buddy Hall, in, Shrieveport. Buddy, told them he had much easier action where he was. Cole, could, Ginit.

I played him some $100 a game 1-pocket a few years back. We played 3 times and he won 2 out of the 3 sessions and finished a few hundred up. The thing I remember most is him firing length of the table banks 90mph and splitting the pocket each time. On one he fired an off angle length of the table bank at high speed and played position for the runout, if he had missed I had an easy runout but, I don't think the idea of missing even entered his mind.

The experience taught me something about banking in one-pocket and the fact that firing them in like that comes in handy at times.
