Kids & Cues

any of you posters out there with kids ever have something like this happen? a buddy here at work was telling me this, and if it would have been me i think i would have lost it or gone ballistic.

he told me he came home one day and his really nice $600 Viking cue was shattered. shaft was splintered, and the butt was damaged too. so, he asked his 15 year old "Stepson" what happened and was told this:

"Kevin came over, we were playing, and he started swinging your cue like it was a sword. i told him to stop, but next thing i knew he wouldnt and so i took my cue and swung it at him to get him to stop. before i knew it, man, he had banged the cue up against the table, and it splintered everywhere. nothing i could do about it, man. it was Kevin that did it. i told him you'd be pi~ssed about it............"

just curious if any of you other posters/parents ever had to suffer through something like this? i think i would have lost it myself.

If you don't lock up your gear (my cue case has latch that can be locked in place with a small padlock), this is normally the result.

Even my three year old son can unlatch my cue case and pull the butt out of the case.

It's a fact, kids love to destroy things. They don't realize the consequance of their actions, they just love to mess with everything they can get their hands on.

My daughter got into our *kid restricted* room where I keep my $10k stereo system. She found the tweeters in my ProAc speaker so much fun to poke. Bye-bye $1,000 tweeters.

My nephews took it upon themselves to play on my Kim Steel when I was not around (an absolute no-no and they KNOW IT). They dinged my house cues to no end, they dinged my brand new break cue, scratched the table where they climbed on it, and apparently threw the balls around the room because I found them on the floor when I returned. My brother couldn't care less that his kids did this to my stuff.

A guy from my local pool hall had his kids get into his case and they used his Schon cue & shafts as their personal play things. They thoroughly dinged & dented them. The butt still shows evidence of this after a refinish.

What if it was a gun and the father didn't lock it up?

He only has himself to blame. Kids will be kids, and things happen. If he didn't want it messed up he should have locked it up.

I lock up my cue when we have company coming over because I don't want them to mistakenly pick it up or use it.
