HOW DO I DO A KILLSHOT
OR
KILL THE CUE BALL
?

I WATCH PROS LIKE
EFREN REYES

FRANCISCO BUSTAMANTE
SHANE VAN BOENING
DO IT ALL THE TIME

IT LOOKS LIKE THEY ARE HITTING THE CUE BALL
AND MAKING CONTACT WITH THE OBJECT BALL
PRETTY HARD WITH GOOD SPEED

Y E T
THE CUE BALL JUST BARELY
COMES OFF OF THE OBJECT BALL
NICE AND SLOW

HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE
?

ANY HELP WITH THIS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

Sounds like you're talking about a "stun roll through" shot, where the CB is hit below center and slides almost all the way to the OB so it only achieves partial forward roll and even though hit firmly only follows a short distance after contact. Like hitting a stop shot on an OB that's a little closer then the actual OB (that's a good way to visualize it for practice).

This.

And some refer to it as the "Drag" shot. Again, same as above. They hit the CB low and it is just about done sliding when it contacts the OB and thus doesnt move much after contact.

although this is from snooker its the same concept on a pool table
in case you are not aware
snooker players cal draw "screw" or screw back
when the instructor in the video says stun shot he means a stop shot in this case scenario
last
for me
when i want to play a stun thru shot
i think of playing a stop shot and then raise my tip about a half a tip higher
in other words
whatever power level and appropriate tip placement for a stop shot
i hit it alittle higher at the same power level
hope this helps
good luck with your game
p.s. it has to be a fairly straight shot

thats wrong
a drag shot is completely different
a drag shot you are using draw and getting the cue ball to slow down just befor it gets to the object ball
COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SHOT compared to a stun run thru where you can hit the cue ball as hard as you want to

Now you've done it - made me get out another drawing. :)

I don't think any of these terms are universally defined.

No its not wrong. The OP said "THE CB JUST BARELY COMES OFF THE OB NICE AND SLOW"

He said nothing about rolling forward. He said COMES OFF which is NOT stun-run-through.

I guess we need clarification from the OP as to exactly what he is referring to.

If you read the ops post she talks about hitting the OBJECT ball HARD and the cue ball doesnt move much
Thats stun thru
Drag you hit the CUEball Hard enough so it just turns to rolling when it get to the object ball ... it hits the object ball softly
2 completely different shots
Icbw but dont think so

NO
NOT EXACTLY LIKE THAT
I KNOW HOW TO DO THAT
I AM ABLE TO APPLY ENOUGH BACKSPIN
SO THE CUEBALL JUST BARELY ROLLS UP
TO THE OBJECT BALL

I'M TALKING MORE ABOUT
WHEN YOU HIT THE OBJECT BALL
PRETTY HARD WITH GOOD SPEED
AND THEN THE CUE BALL SLOWLY COMES OFF OF IT

FOR EXAMPLE
IF I HAD TO REALLY PUT SOME SPEED
ON AN OBJECT BALL
M A Y B E
FOR A BANK

B U T
I JUST WANT THE CUE BALL TO SLIGHTLY COME OFF
SO IT WILL STAY IN THAT AREA FOR MY NEXT SHOT

WOULD THAT BE JUST LIKE
A TIP BELOW CENTER CUE
SIMILAR TO A STOP SHOT
IF IT WAS LINED UP STRAIGHT
AND PLAY THE NATURAL ANGLE

?

Yes, that's what I meant to describe with the first highlighted part above.

Yes, like the second highlighted part above (and like bbb also described).

Fay,

Can you use Chalkysticks and diagram the shot for us that you are talking about? Its fairly simple to use. Just drag the balls into position, hit save, choose what file, and then copy and paste into this thread. Then we will know for certain what shot you are talking about.

A stun roll through shot is a stun shot with a bit of a pop to it, where the cb jumps forward a bit past the stun point. A kill shot is executed by strking the cb as low as possible and as slow as needed to where the backspin wears off at some point prior to contact with the ob where the cb is rolling when it makes contact with the ob. Two different types of shots.

Fran, bbb, he has no idea what a drag shot is.

Elevate the butt and strike with the edge of the tip (top edge of the tip contacts the CB). After that, it's all about controlling and refining this stroke, as it amplifies any fundamental issues. Look up the 8 ball bible by monk. He elaborates on the 4 stokes needed and gives you plenty of drills to hone them with.

EDIT: I misunderstood, I thought you were wanting to kill the ball dead on a hard shot. I still recommend the book above though, it gets you understanding the different types of shot required at some point in your pool career.
