Kindle?

My brother is trying to find out what I want for christmas from him and I was thinking about a kindle, anyone here have one and can recommend or tell me to avoid it?

I was thinking of getting it for the pool books like freddy the beards and others so I can take it to the pool room to read while waiting for someone to play. Any help will be appreciated.

I love my Kindle. I never thought I'd be okay with giving up turning pages for clicking a button, but after using the Kindle for about 30 minutes I was hooked. There's no eye strain (which can't be said for the iPad) and you can read it in direct sunlight without having screen glare issues. Not sure how it would be for books that have a lot of diagrams though, as the images don't always translate correctly when I'm reading books with graphs.

I am a QVC addict. A couple of days ago, the Today's Special Value of the Day was a PanDigital 2GB 7"Color TouchScreen WiFi eReader for $179.95 and "free" shipping. Man, I was so tempted to get it. I have been wanting one of these for a long time, but I just don't know enough about them.

I realize you can download books for reading, but what I like is that you can check your e-mail and get online. It has a virtual QWERTY keyboard. I was thinking that I could download various dictionaries as reference sources and make this a work-related tool; a tax writeoff, if you will.

The Amazon Kindle is 3GB and $189, but it doesn't have color. Everything, I think, is black and white, and it has a 6" screen.

The Sony reader only has a 5" screen and a whopping $149 price tag. I'm not sure what this one has that the others don't, unless you're paying for the Sony brand name.

Anyway, I really think this PanDigital is the newest. I'm not sure which one is the best, but I like the fact that it is in color.

yeah that is a big help, one of the main reasons I was thinking about one was for the books like freddys and others that have diagrams like for kicking and banking. Anyone else have those books on kindle? If so did you have problems with the diagrams??

The Kindle is the way to go

I have a Kindle and absolutley love it, in fact I do have the beards books on it. It seems to have the least technical difficulties of the the other wi-fi readers. ( Nook) and of course the wwi-fi is more convienient then the regular readers.

Got the kingle 3g for the wife she loves it, and with the 3g you can get online to see az forum for free (at least for Now) where ever you get 3g service.
I like having the net if I need it traveling..

Kindle

Fully recommend it. I have had mine for over a year but so far the only pool books that I have are the aforementioned Freddie's Banking With The Beard and Fran Crimi's The Everything About Pool and Billiards Book.

I also use it as an MP3 player, downloading via USB from my PC and there are 1000s of Audio Books that you can play through the device.

If you want to read a new book you can browse the Kindle Store, order it and be reading it five minutes later
You can use the browser which is permanently online to do basic internet task...Email, forums etc

There is available to buy a book which tells you how to get free stuff but that one costs money. Make it your first purchase.

I particularly like the 'text to speech' feature. If your eyes get tired reading the text but you still want to continue then press a button and you can choose a female or a male voice to listen to while they read it to you.....

All this for around $150.
