Kari Paloheimo!

At the time of this writing, the IPT qualifier is in progress at Jillian's in Akron, Ohio.:)

One of the competitors is Kari Paloheimo. The buzz at the tournament is that he is Mika Immonen's brother!

I had read one time that Mika was a twin, if memory serves me right, but this gentleman doesn't have the same last name as Mika.

Whoever he is, he just knocked Japanese Champion Takenaka Hiroshi on the B side of the charts and is in good position to win the qualifier. I'm just curious if anyone knows who is this masked man! :p

Interesting Link: http://www.globalsnookercentre.co.u..._Europe/Global_Finland/fin_kari_paloheimo.htm

It has Kari Paloheimo's profile, and he shares the same birthday as Mika Immonen.

However if memory serves me correctly, Immonen was actually born in London and not Helsinki.

I would guess if anything (due to birth locations, and last name discrepancies) that the term "twin" is used loosely when describing the two. Both Finnish, both pro players, same birthday; so they may be described as 'twins' amongst peers.

It's not that simple; for Mika it says that he was born in London but raised in Helsinki and for Kari it says that his hometown is Helsinki (so no mention about birthplace).

They do share the same birthday and about that name issue the finnish law actually quite easily can go also the way that twins might have different familynames.

Good grief, that is interesting. The plot thickens! :p

I hope some pictures are posted on the IPT website for this qualifier in Akron, so that we can all catch a glimpse of Kari! I remember seeing a picture of Mika and his twin brother, but I can't remember where. It might be here on AzBilliards. I'm going to do a search!

Sweet!...who brought the bagoong?

Joe <~~~~ wondering if anyone would get my vague joke.

This is very interesting indeed! Perhaps someone can elaborate some more on this? Anyways, if he knocked Takenaka to the B side he can shoot real good.

I went on my own fishing expedition and came up with this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bagoong
Doug
(smells something fishy going on)

Well, it sure doesn't sound appetizing: ...contains fragments of the salted and fermented fish, however, are still similar in flavor. The odor is distinct and unique. Some compare the smell, to that of the sewer.

The stench must be horrible! :o

Let's wait until mjantti sees this thread, most likely he'll know how this is.

I knew I had read about Mika's twin on this forum several years ago, and after a search, I discovered that Mjantti, in fact, posted about Mika and Kari: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=15116&highlight=Kari

Interestingly, a link from a Flipino newspaper: http://sunstar.com.ph/static/ceb/2004/12/03/sports/meet.ice.mika.html

A quote from Mika: It’s different here; I could really feel the crowd,” says Immonen, who’s twin, Kari, once beat Ralf Soquet in the 1995 European Championships.

Kari is Mika's twin brother! Akron may be in for an ice storm tonight! :)

Yeah, but once you get past the smell, it's DELICIOUS....

Yeah. Instead of "something's rotten in Denmark," it's something's rotten in Akron, but in a good way! :p

That reminds me of the joke about the blind man passing the fish market! :o

Thanks Doug, i'll go corrected and take my punishment. But at least i'm not alone here.

Just for the halibut, is it about a cod piece ? Red snapper ?
Doug
(I'm floundering here)

It's about Bagoong from Finland who beat Ralf Souquet in 1995 and is turning some heads in Akron! :D

I also heard the German player, Michael Schmidt, is another big kahuna, smelling up the joint with his strong play and may be one of the favorites to win! ;)

I'm still pulling for Ronnie Wiseman. He's on the bottom of the charts in a good bracket, IMHO! :)

Okay...time to put this joke to rest. :p

At first glance when I saw the title of this thread, I saw "Kari Kari"...which is a native Filipino dish made of ox-tails with, vegetables, and the key incredient of peanut butter (it's actually spelled kare kare).

The dish is usually served with bagoong on the side. And yes, many people who aren't familiar with bagoon thinks it smells NASTY!

Just thought some of the Filipino posters here would get the joke. Didn't mean to hijack the thread. :D

Anyways, good luck to Mika's brother! (From now on, i'll just call him bagoong).

screw that!....I'm going to Burger King!:D

just kidding...I"m Italian, we have some nasty dishes also.....that taste pretty good:D

I must say I got a kick out of learning about bagoong. This is an educational forum at times! :D

Now the question remains. Will the bagoong fall short of the finish line, or will the Finnish bagoong win in Akron? He's on the B side of the chart, thanks to German Michael Schmidt, which went hill-hill. It is very noteworthy to mention that Kari defeated Ralf Souquet in 1995.

Canadian Ronnie Wiseman is also on the B side of the chart, losing a heartbreaker. Though the tables in Akron were re-felted, the table Ronnie was playing on had a crack in the slate which became known when the shot he fired on the hill-hill rolled out like a flat tire. :o

I think, though I am not sure because of the name spelling on the IPT website, that Tang Hoa from California is on the winners' side of the charts in Las Vegas in a good spot to win his qualifier, but his next match will be a toughie when he faces Filipino Ronnie Alcano.

Rafael Martinez and James Walden won in Tulsa, OK this weekend, and Imrad Majid and Goran Mladenovic won in London. Six spots are left and will be determined by day's end, and then the 200-player field for the North American 8-Ball Championship will be known.

Picture of Tang Hoa and Keith McCready taken at the IPT King of the Hill in Orlando this past December!

Kari just got knocked out of the IPT qualifier in Akron, OH by a player named Michael Enters.

Ronnie Wiseman and Michael Enters are now duking it out on the B side of the charts. Go Ronnie, go!

Where is the Jillians in Akron? Going up 77 I usually only make it as far as Chris's in Canton.

Pete-biker: I'm here... :)

Kari Paloheimo is actually Mika's twin brother, shoots very good and fearless pool, has a couple of pool Finnish medals under his belt and is a very accomplished snooker player nowadays. And I'll stop here before I blow his cover entirely... :D
