Ok, so here is another thread on the age old subject of the "knock".
I was in Nashville last week and went to JOB's one night. I recognized a few people from 10 years ago when I lived in Nashville, but by face only. I played in the small bar table 9 ball event they have. I didn't have my cue, so I had to rent a housecue and still did ok. Won two matches and lost two. It was a short race to three, so in my losses it wasn't that I dogged it - but just didn't get an opportunity to show up.
Anyhow, let me say that everyone there was really friendly. Real nice bunch playing in and running the tournament - but there was some serious knocking going on. There were a few players there who I could tell could play. Even though I was cueless I would have tangled for some $50 sets or something for practice. There was no other gambling going on except for a ring game. I wasn't going to approach anyone, but I was waiting on someone to ask me which surprisingly didn't happen.
Anyhow, I'm sitting over on the sideline after I was knocked out and a couple of guys start talking to me and I'm not saying much just listening. They are going on and on about how this guy plays, and how good that guy is, and did you know he was running racks when he was 10 - so on and so forth. I was just thinking to myself, "Man...I didn't even ask and these guys are telling me the life story of their best players." They didn't know me from Adam, or if I even wanted to gamble but that would sure discourage someone who might be looking to gamble. I wanted to go up to him and tell him, man, these locals think the world of your game but they have you knocked to any new person before you can try and get a game. Who knows, maybe he wouldn't even care or that is just the way it is down there now. I just thought it was kind of funny.
