KOTH Question

At the KOTH event in December, is it going to be Efren, or is it going to be whoever has the highest amount of prize winnings? This doesn't make any sense, since the KOTH was invitational only, and it gave alot of players a head-start in prize money. I've heard from alot of different people that Efren is the KOTH, and from others that it's the person with the most prize money at the end of the year. Does anyone know 100% for sure how the KOTH format works??

Come on cuetech, this isnt' rocket science! :p The KOTH will be the guy who wins the most prize money in 2006, eg King Of The Hill (top of the pile, top dog etc) Efren "was" KOTH LAST year because he beat Jones in the promo match and therefore had the most prize money, naf yes but needed to Launch the tour.

One interesting point is that Hohman's loss may have cost him his chance to be KOTH. Whoever wins the WO will have 500k + whatever they won in the NA open, so could potentially be 550k if one of the top guys win it. This will put Hohman 200k off the pace and with only ONE event to go I give him little chance. An expensive first round loss indeed.

This is some really flawed logic you are losing. And to correct you, Mike beat Jones in the promo match, not Efren.

Now, you are saying the person with the most prize money is the current KOTH. In 2005, Mike first played LJJ and pocketed $150,000, making him KOTH. Thats simple. In the next KOTH event, which ALSO took place in 2005, Efren beat Mike in the finals, winning $200,000. HOWEVER, Mike Sigel made another $100,000 for getting second place. That gives Mike a total of $250,000 in 2005, and Efren being in 2nd place with $200,000. By your logic, that means Mike would still be KOTH after losing to Efren. If that's the case, why was Efren CROWNED KOTH?? It's not rocket science, but if you know how to add it might make you wonder.....

Sorry one typo, Sigel not efren won the promo. But other than that I think its pretty simple. Forget last year if its confusing you. Whoever has the most money after the 3 tournaments this year will be in the final of the king of the hill tournament. All the other top 41? or however many players will play off like last year and the winner will play whoever it is with the most money (after the 3 events) in the final.

Its not a question of addition ;)

The way that I interpret the IPT site statement re the 2006 KOH Tournament, there will be only three tournaments in '06 for the purpose of determining who will automatically be seeded into that #1 position for the 12/12 - 12/17 KOH Tournament at the end of this year.

Those three tournaments are the NA 8-Ball Championship won by Holmann, this tournament and the Masters coming up at the end of November.

IMO, the previous KOH Tournament results do not enter into the equation for the following year.

I doubt that anyone knows for sure except Deno. :)

I do believe KoH will be top money winner. But that's not how king of the hill works. To be king of the hill, you need to topple the current king of the hill. didn't KT play with other kids when he was little? He clearly doesn't understand the rules to king of the hill. Real Pool Real Rules my arse.

I really thought that for the KOTH tournament, Reyes would be waiting in the finals. Either they changed it, or I completely misunderstood them.

That's what I thought to. You are the king unless a challenger defeats you. It makes more sense.

You are the KING... cuz you won the most money during the year... last year was just that... and since you're the KING, therefore you deserve a free pass to the Finals in the year-end finale.... guaranteeing you a huge annual salary for the year. He who has the most money, rules!!!!

Someone told me months ago that Efren would be playing the biggest money winner of 2006, they might have been wrong, but if Linda is reading this maybe she could ask Deno since they are all in the same room.
have a happy day

The person who wins this tournament in Reno will probably be the top money earner at the end of the year.

The payouts for the top 6 players kind of ruin the whole year end money list.
I think the IPT went for the big headlines of $500,000 to the winner.
But I think the payouts i've listed below make more sense for the KOTH standings and in general.

IPT
1st 500,000
2nd 150,000
3rd 92,000
4th 80,000
5th 66,000
6th 50,000

My Payouts
1st 300,000
2nd 200,000
3rd 144,000
4th 120,000
5th 100,000
6th 74,000

Why is this so hard?

Efren is the reigning KOTH. He will play the winner of the KOTH tournament this December to determine the 2007 KOTH. The top 40 on the Money list on December 10 will be invited to the tournament, plus Efren. The top money winner of 2006 is ... TTMWO2006

Its not so hard, BUT you got it WRONG!!! I can't believe this thread has gone on so long and this question keeps getting asked by the same people over and over! CHeck out the IPT website:

Prize Money: $1,000,000 Hyatt Regency

Players: 41 (Top 41 prize money earners in 2006)

Dates: December 12 - 17, 2006

Location: The Wynn in Las Vegas, Nevada

The top money earner in 2006 (the King
of the Hill) will be seeded directly into the
final match. Each player guaranteed a
minimum of $8750. Full payouts listed
in the addendum.

The King of the Hill doesn't carry over, Efren is NOT the king of the Hill, the "king of the Hill" is the person who finishes top of the money list after Chicago!!!! Agghhhh!

Hmm..some of you guys are thinking of the KOTH as a title that is held and transfered upon loss.

It is not.

Alll the KOTH means is, he/she with the most winnings is the KOTH and gets an automatic seeding in the final match. That's it. Then the top 41 prize money winners play in a tournament to win the tournament (not to be the KOTH, but to just win a tournament).

After it is over. There is no KOTH. The next KOTH will be the person who wins the most prize money during the next season.

Simple as that.

bola ocho's (and craig's, and cigardave's) explanation makes sense. that's how i interpreted the ipt site also.....

however, i think oneballeddie's (and fred's) interpretation might have been better and would have made more sense. makes it more exciting. who'd want to see the top moneymakers during the year win more money? the KOTH as a title is much more precious and would stimulate the imagination and passion of the fans. but sadly, we don't make the rules.

Riddle me this...

Lets say that Karl Boyes wins in reno. For those that dont know, he doesn't have his IPT card, he is a qualifier. Would that make him king of the hill even without a tour card.

Another question, will the non card holders be elegible to play in the 06 KOTH if their money earnings are in the top 41?

"great scott! it's the riddler!"
"holy conundrums, batman! how will we get out of this sticky situation now?"
"take it easy, boy wonder. all it takes is a little 'bat-a'...Efren Bata, that is."
"hahaha! Oh Batman...."

Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion.....

nanananananananananana....BATMAN!

OBE, you are awesome! How did you know? Every statement you made above is absolutely correct - jointly and severally!

(Never mind that the others were technically correct that the KOTH will be the top money winner of 2006, not the guy who won the tournament in Orlando. Efren is and will be the KOTH no matter which little technical definition people have argued. An Efren is an Efren is an Efren!)
