I would like to make a bold prediction that Kuo from Chinese Taipei will make it to at least the final four in the US Open.

I will keep you folks updated with pictures.

Hi Richard,

Given the fact that Kuo was in the last 8 of the 2004 WPC and in the final of the 2005 WPC,I'm not so sure if your prediction is really a BOLD one. It's a good prediction, but this guy is definitly no underdog.Kuo is a world class talent and has proven that he can really play against the best the world has to offer.

His two great world championship showings were both in Taiwan, however, so playing on American soil might prove to be more of a challenge.

Overall, I really like your prediction.

will Fong Pang Cho play in the open? Havent seen him listed.

Chao concentrated all his attention on the political affairs in the beginning of the year, and the pool seems to be his bywork. But I think he will try to make a comeback in WPC.

Kuo is good, but I think Yang, Chao, Hsia and Chang Pei-Wei are all better than he.

Pei wei Chang is a great player; he is in Poland now playing in the World Pool League. Best wishes to him.

I wonder if we can watch the World Pool League matches on line while in VA by any chance?

I believe there will be two Taiwanese players joining the US Open this year. I am very interested in how they do.

I think with the new break format and rack, Kuo has a bigger chance of winning. It is because they do not have the Sardo in Taiwn, and I do not believe they ever use the break box or put the 9 on the spot.

He just quit in a hill/hill match with a headache?

From AZ news re Bustamante story

In earlier results in the last 8: Bustamante clobbered Siauw Wieto of Indonesia, 9-7, Harsoyo nipped countryman Jimmy Husman, 9-3, Kuo Po Cheng retired in the hill-hill match, 8-8, against fellow Chinese cue Chang due to headache while Zulfikry stop Pinoy surprise quarter-finalists Panfilo "Abu" Damuag, 9-7.

Must be a story there. Id sure hate to have a headache that bad. Yikes!

Richard, I certainly wouldn't put a top finish beyond him. He really has a complete game and the guy rarely misses anything. It will really depend on how he handles playing in the US, jetlag can definitely be a factor. But it won't be his first time playing in the US so hopefully he can adjust well and get on a strong run, if this happens I would definitely consider him a front runner to even win!

I went to the pool room with Kuo, he wanted to practise a bit so we were trying to find some guy for him to play with.

He ended up playing Mika. Kuo won the firt set, then lost the second set hill hill. it was 6:00 am so we left.

He is now playing with a Samsara cue, pink ivory points with an ebony nose. He said he liked the cue very much, and he is feeling very good about his game.

He also likes the rib eye at Q Master very much, he eats there every night.:)

Richard,

After watching the tape of the WPC finals match, although Wu is certainly a powerhouse, I think Kuo has the most finesse of any young player to come along in years.

He certainly is a top talent, no question. I wish him good luck - I think he is good enough to win it too.

Chris,
Yes, I think Kuo has really top notch cue ball control. His cushion/kicking style knowledge is also really outstanding.

Yes I know all about it.He got his nuts shot in by Jerry Slivka!!!! he never could run 4 balls in arow.Go's to show you when the presure is on everyone has dog in them!!!! Don't get mad nobody just the facts.

Maybe the pressure of competing in foreign territory got to him?? He has played in the finals of the WPC, and played on TV many times in Taiwan, a country that likes pool as much as the Phillipines, so I dunno if it was pressure alone. That's strange, maybe he didn't sleep well or something.

Anyways, Ryan why don't you go see if he will play you some? That would be a good match.

That is so true. Kuo knows that he needs more international experience--that is why he came and joined the US Open.
When I talked to him, he told me he is not really affected by the pressure of the tournament but rather the expectation pressure and the fact that the playing conditions are so different from that back home.
Ryan, I am glad to see you doing so well, all the best to you.:)
I have taken some pictures of you in my photo gallery. Feel free to download and use them.

Thanks for introducing me to Kuo Richard. Even though we cant communicate at a very high level, it is abundantly evident that he is a gentleman and an excellent guy.

Thank you for your company, it is always a pleasure.
Kuo is a very intelligent young man, who presents himself very well at all times. He has only been playing pool for about 10 years, he started around the same time as Pei Wei Chang.
Regards,
Richard
