Laminated Handles

My brothers girlfriend works at a cabinet factory. She can get tons of maple and oak boards. They are about 5/8" thick. If I glued these together, would they work well to use as handles? I'm using solid maple now, but I would think this would work even better and cheaper since I get the wood for free. My second question is, can I also use oak for handles? Is there a big weight difference between the two?

I don't see why not.
Glue them opposing grains.
Are these hard maple?

I have used Oak in several cues. Most of the white Oaks are slightly heavier than hard rock Maple and the Red Oaks are about the same if not slightly lighter. My Break cue is all White Oak in the Butt.
