I KNOW most of you don't need or use or believe in these. If so ignore this post. :kma:

For the rest... any experience with these devises? Anything out there worth the spend. Some of the contraptions I've seen are way out there and others a quite simple. Like a rifle scope attachment. I can play at home so no one will know "I'm using"

The kind that attach to your cue? I think those can be useful for showing up any stroke wobbles (by watching how much the dot moves in front of you), but I can't imagine any other use for them.

I've used a laser-type carpenter's level to help beginners learning to aim. To show them where the contact point is on the object ball I set it to project a vertical line and place it on the rail aimed through the center of the OB at the pocket - it makes a bright vertical line on the OB contact point.

laser training

laser is great for cue ball control.
I made one for a training aid . but once someone teaches you the 90% rule
If you can vision the object path or line of travel, cue ball deflection is always 90% if you hit the center of cue ball with enough force to slide the cue ball without rolling forward or putting reverse english on the cue ball when the cue ball strikes into the object ball the cue ball deflection is always 90 degrees. a laser would be a helpful training tool for cue ball deflection.
But i havent tried the store bought laser i just copied the one in the magazine.

But i wasnt happy with the brightness of the laser beam it wasnt bright enough to see the laser line.
I will explain the tool laying down a laser (line) showing the path of both object ball and cue ball not a red dot.
the lasers were not stronge enough and i paid 35.00 for each laser.
worked great in a dark room but to get the real visible red beam line on the cloth the lights had to be turned down and then back up. border line useless at best. a strong laser with a degrees wheel I think would be very useful. In my opinion the real way to know which tip to buy and when to replace the tip. is by measured performance for what you can do not a pro in a video. having a training tool like that i think would be one of the better investments for most pool players......

I have a cheapie laser trainer, about $60, mounts on your cue. The beam is not very bright and you have to adjust some screws to zero it in.

I mounted it on a spare cue, then clamped it in a portable vise so I set it on the table and try to sight in straight in shots.

Should have saved up for the one by Joe Tucker:

Joe has some great videos.

Joe, if you see this, bring back your old intro for the laser device, where it's dark and you see the two red eyes, and Light My Fire by the Doors is playing in the background. :)

I didnt like the laser thing either. Dollar for dollar and perhaps overall, the best training aid out there is the 3rd eye stroke trainer.

I like the 10-12 dollar line laser. I do not use it currently to practice but it is the nuts for setting up practice. You can put dots in a straight line for one thing I have a few other pool uses for this economical tool but it does not make you stroke straighter. However it is a great tool to be used to building a straighter stroke.

Good luck practice hard.

Here is a tip pick a place in the pocket for the OB to enter the opening. Then shoot the same shot 20-500 times and paycarefule attention to the CB hitting the OB and watch the OB from collision to pocket.

Here is a good process to follow
Visualize Setup Shoot Observe Adjust Repeat.

hi Loren
Which laser system are you thinking of I didnt know there was that many different laser system.
this is what i was thinking of.

I am digging the idea of using the laser level. We need to buy one, I think my mom took ours to her new house in Missouri... UGH!
Thanks to everyone for your input.

Hey MMike here are some of the others. There's another one but I could've sworn it was called Laser Training Aid. But I don't see it now.

Loren:

Might you be referring to the LaserStroke?

http://laserstroke.com/

-Sean <-- has one, and attributes it to helping develop his stroke

It's very helpful for learning to see the OB contact point.

The only drawback is that it's a pain to move it for different shots. I recommend using a paper hole reinforcer (one of those little white stick-on "donuts") to position the object ball in the same place for every shot (so you don't have to move the laser) and moving the cue ball around to practice different angles.

Thanks Sean I like that Laser Stroke. PJ i like your thinking too.
Practicing the same shot is all I have right now. I'm improving every day, I'm feeling really good. The last few games between the hubby and I he said "I'm just going to sit down over here, you let me know when your done." :D I can take down 4 balls (in 8 ball) sometimes 5 on my first turn. Up from 1 or 0 a few weeks back.

My weakness is cue ball control after i hit the object ball.

I was thinking of the spider laser.

MMike
Um yeah I'm still trying to get better at pocketing. Most of my drills right now are on my draw or English. About 35% of the time the ball goes where I want it. Previously I just wandered aimlessly through the table, following the CB to my next destination. Hey it's one way to get exercise. :outtahere:

playing pool like a pro stance.( stroke aim speed follow through, shooting smart)
for a (aim) training aids I like the ghost ball method.
I shoot ghost ball method straight and cut shots.
ghost table method on banks. And another method for kicks this one is hard to explain but my single rail kicks are right on.

I would look at the ghost trainer mentioned earlier too.
The reason I say this if you are wanting to practice hitting the center of the cue ball with a laser sight that fine, but the aim of the cue ball to object ball
is not a center to center in a straight laser line shot in less ever shot you make is a perfect straight shot. any cut shot will be side of the cue ball to side of object ball.

draw back to lasers and laser beam lines
is sometimes its hard to see the beam lines, lighting glare etc.
somthing else to focus on.
you will not be using the laser every shot or in normal use.
have fun.
