after watching the first WPBA show on ESPN last night, the Cuetec Florida Classic Final between Jeanette and Julie, i almost have to agree with the commentating. at times, it was kinda goofy. and at times even the woman analyst missed the call on position, shots, etc.

but, still, as long as they have Billiards on ESPN, i dont care who does the broadcast, its fine with me. the more the better.

A highlight of one of the matches for me was when Karen Corr, accidentally or intentionally, slow-rolled a ball which looked like it was going to get hung up and leave her opponent a duck shot.

I loved that instant replay video clip. Always so very reserved when she is in competition, I got a chuckle when I saw Karen actually use a little body english to make that ball drop in the pocket! :D

There has been a lot of pool on TV lately. Since I'm not a team sports enthusiast, (football, baseball, etc.) I've never been in the position where my wife complained about me hogging the TV watching sports. But last night or the night before when I turned pool on I definitely got a look. :D

It is better to have quality over quantity of pool on tv. The commentary is embarrassing at best. They try to make a straight in shot seem like the player had to put in countless hours just to make that shot. If everyone on this forum hates it, imaging someone who plays pool receationally (general public) thinks of the commentary....

Honestly, you see the same with most sports. Baseball commentators are often clowns. Football is no better. At the very least, they should accept their clownness and get somebody who's funny yet knowledgeable. The biggest problem is that the commentators are often a knocked out WPBA player and Mitch Lawrence. Nobody wants to openly say something critical about anybody and that's boring. They come off as intelligent (arguable) but at the sake of leaving passion and honesty at the door.

It bothers the crap out of me that at the end of the Corr/Kim match, they elect the 9-ball break by Corr to be the shot of the match. Not only is this a lucky occurance which requires no skill, CORR LOST! Having pool on television is an opportunity to teach the general public about the intricate details of our sport. It's a chance to show them how to be better pool players in the hopes they might actually stop by their local room and try a few shots. The commentators seem too focused on maintaining friendships and deciding on what's best for television than trying to educate.

One of these days, someone is going to explain to me why we play down our sport to gain support of the masses. Instead of condescending to their level, shouldn't we try to raise them to ours?

Hey DCP... Ever notice how after a big snow storm where your roads, driveways, sideways, and parking lots are all clogged up and difficult to use about 20% ( or as high as 70% ) of the population are all-of-a-sudden snow removal experts. Obviously these people have all miss their calling, they should be traveling the world following snow storms, kind of like the way the Aborigines from down under used to chase rain clouds...

:p :p Somehow I related this strange behavior with pool TV coverage bitching.....maybe there is something wrong with me

Hello everyone this is my first post to the azb forum

I have a question about your prefrence in commentators on the espn matches. I personally like the commentary by Billy Incardona because he doesn't try to over dramatize the shots. When there is a good shot he will say it and it is really a good shot.

Another person(who you all know of and will remain unnamed) tries to make the game seem like a football game. And I really hate the fact that he always has the same thing to say about shots. Things like "he has to hit the bottom rail AT SPEED" or "he has to dial long distance on this 8" I think that statements like this wil make people really think that pool is extremely stupid.
