Last Pocket 8 Ball

I don't know what the mexicans call it but I call it Mexican Rotation. You discard the 1 and 2 and start with the 3 which is worth 6 points. The rest of the balls are worth what's on them. 61 points wins the game. I LOVE this game and have a huge winning record with it. In fact I have never had a losing session anywhere with this game. Then again I have also never played anyone my caliber or better at it.

Rafael Martinez showed me a shot that he plays where a ball is frozen to the middle diamond on the kitchen line and you have to play the cueball out of the kitchen to make it. He crosses the kitchen line and spins the ball in. With a little practice I could do it to. But I found out one time that if I did it in a money game then that was the end. It turns out that in Mexico ALL the good players know and do this shot regularly and it's a sign of a really good player if you show that shot. Now I wasn't out to hustle people but I did want to play so I stopped using that shot and kicked at it like everyone else. ;-)

I always wondered about this game. So, everything in order, balls worth face value like rotation (except the 3)... wait, you have thirteen balls, and 18 diamonds, do you recall how they start? I thought one ball per diamond but even with 15 balls that can't work.

That kitchen shot, the ball's on the head spot or middle of head rail? That sounds like you have to jack up and curve out of the kitchen, then sharply back up to the top rail... you just one rail kick it? (not counting possibly hitting the head rail)

We would play 8 ball bank last pocket just so we didn't have to put money in the bar table every 5 minutes. I would never play it with someone I didn't think capable of playing it - at that point just take their money playing the regular way :)

Last pocket was the main game in my small home town in Wisconsin. No ball in hand (they don't play any ball in hand in any game). Scratches in the kitchen. And you had the option of 3 or more rail into any pocket.

I usually play last pocket 8 with a group of Dominican and Cuban friends every Friday afternoon from 12 to 6 pm.

Last pocket 8 is very popular among Latinos. I've found that it has made my safety game better and it has also sharpened my kicking and banking skills.
