Last word on break/jump cues

Fellow Shooters,

I've enjoyed reading reviews and comments from this section for years and now I am compelled to put in my two cents.

I've been using a Sledgehammer for Breaking and Jumping for the longest time. About a month ago I had the opportunity to use the latest and the greatest from Mike Gulyassy. For those who don't know, Mike is the inventor of the Sledgehammer and yes, he did sell the technology to McDermott.

The latest and greatest Break/Jump Cue is THE ANVIL. Folks, this thing puts the Sledgehammer to shame on both jumping and breaking fronts. First, the new taper and Ferrule Tip Technology are just that, new. The ANVIL carries a patent and is a very different cue than the Sledgehammer. Second, Mike has invented a shaft coating known as Shaft Freeze which produces the smoothest finish you will ever feel on a shaft.

I have been using my ANVIL for 2 weeks and I can tell you this. I am pocketing balls on the 9 ball break with regularity. I have pocketed 4 balls on the snap, 4 times in the past week. The nice thing is this, you can control the cue ball and generate power. As for jumping balls, I find I am able to get up quicker than I was able to with my Sledgehammer. I am not an uber jumper and believe it is always better to kick. However, this thing jumps a ton and is a nice tool to have.

If you want a Break/Jump Cue that does both exceptionally well the ANVIL is the answer.

Thanks for the info. I also own an original Sledgehammer that I have been using for about 4-5 years. I love it but it has seen better days. It has a few bumps and bruises. The threads inside the shaft are breaking apart. I know I can easily get it fixed but I like new toys.

I wanted to let you all know I received the new Anvil J/B last week. It hits like a tank! When I spoke to Mike he told me the cue had black with white spec linen. I asked to change it to all black. He said no problem and shipped the cue out the next day. It also jumps very easily. I am used to jumping with a full cue. I used to play in the APA and this was required. I left that league and now play in an open nine ball league where we are allowed to break down a cue to jump. I now am able to jump a full ball about five inches away. With more practice it should improve. The fit and finish is outstanding.

I highly recommend this cue. Mike is a great guy to deal with.
