Layered ferrule on a McDermott I2 shaft?

So I'm doing a tip replacement on a McDermott i2 shaft for the first time. The ferrule looks like it's layered. I'm not familiar with the construction of these shafts and I didn't see any thread talking about it. I can guess there's a cored tendon of the same material as the ferrule?? Is this normal?

It's in the picture of the top of the ferrule, I've never seen this before and just wondering if that's the way the i2 is made or someone did something funny in the past.

I was actually referring to the concentric circles. But I was wondering what made those arc shaped sanding marks, it was obviously something with a small radius. That whole face is the ferrule material, right?
 
Yes, that whole face is ferrule material.
I looked on the McDermott web site and they show it being a solid piece like a vault on carbon fiber shafts. I didn't want to take off too much of the face of it. The concentric circles could be grooves put in by McDermott for glue hold on the tip maybe?? It looks like a center with three sleeves to the naked eye.
The guy I'm doing it for says it's a spare shaft and I believe the original tip I removed.
 
I've seen this too. I think they're just score marks, but I can't be sure. You would think a company in business as long as McDermott would know that scoring the ferrule is a dumb idea.

I agree, just something new to me that I wondered if anyone else has seen.
Pretty precise and looks intentional for some reason.
 
I don't remember seeing that on some of my Gcore shafts I retipped a couple years back, but it's been a couple years so might have been.
