LD shaft users and custom cues

Go for it

Any decent cue maker can match about any shaft and ring to their butt. Any decent player can adjust to about any shaft after a few days.

I have a Meucci "sneaky" with a Black Dot shaft, an OB Classic shaft and 3 Diviney Lake Salvage shafts. All shafts were built to my preferred length, diameter and taper. After a few days I am fine with any of them, but I seem to prefer the Diviney Lake Salvage shafts as I use them the most. All my playing shafts have a black ring and all but the Meucci are interchangeable on my 3 Diviney cue butts.

LD shafts and layered tips are a big part of the money generated in the manufacturing billiard business and many chase equipment looking for a short cut to the holy grail, the best of the best. I can be as guilty of it as the next guy. But, most of us don't wear out pool cues and shafts so companies come out with some thing new to generate sales.

I also believe you could give Shane, Alex, Dennis, Neil, Darren and many others of that elite group any decent shaft and after a few days no one would know they switched shafts.

One of the reasons we humans are at the top of the food chain is we are more adaptable then any other species on this planet.

Interesting discussions, not sure where my head is at now. I've only been playing for a year with my Predator, so I'd hope I wasn't a year away from getting back to my monster Apa 5 speed if I move to a custom.

You're not. I can play with a maple shaft, and it takes about 3-4 games to get adjusted.... I still won't shoot as good with my LD, cause I can't load up with inside English on those shots that come up, but other than that, I can play with it pretty sporty.... just won't be at 100% ever because I play better with an LD....

you'll be fine... I'd just stick with the LD and then when you sell you can sell with the shaft it came with... the cue will look like brand new

There are a lot of custom cue makers that offer LD shafts. I know Tonkin does it. Pete makes a great stick and his LD shafts play great. I play with a Mezz WX900 on top of my Bobby Hunter.

I've been using a Predator shaft for awhile now and I'm starting to look for a used cue from a custom maker - I want something nice and unique.

I keep hesitating to pull the trigger because I'm concerned that I'm so used to the LD shafts that my game will suffer with any custom no matter how nice.

I'm curious what other LD using folks have done - did you have matching rings put on your favorite LD brand, just adjust or what?

It's bumming me out - I've seen a few Tascarella's for sale that have me interested...

i have not read anyone else responce
i own many fancy cues( including tasc)
and bought ob shafts for all of them ( i did not care about matching the rings)
except for the balance point and thickness of the grip area
they play similar
my point is .......its the shaft and tip that gives you that feel
my 2 cents is
that before low deflection shafts
the cue makers whose cue SHAFTS had less deflection became the cues that were "MONSTER PLAYERS"
