Today, there are many good LD shafts. 314 being a standard you can't go wrong with, but really many just as good for less $$ as listed above. I'd advise staying away from the skinny versions sometimes they are squirrely.

The United joint should für on a piloted 5/16x14 butt if that helps.

I do my own work, have used 3/8 10 for quite a few years so, I like it and don't have to deal with shaft inserts etc. when I need to do something.

I have a Hsunami kielwood shaft and I love it. Great feel, sound, and performance. I will never own anything different.
